High resolution or High refresh rate? - Page 2

if you go with one of the korean ips monitors(catleap, crossover, etc) you can increase the refresh rate up to 100hz and on some i read itll go to 120. that would be the best of both worlds but im not entirely sure if the 670 ftw can handle that. i have one and i nearly max out the vram on it playing at 1080 with 120hz on my monitor.

I appreciate everyones input on the subject. I mostly lpay games, web surf, and watch Blu-Ray's...I would be interested in watching some 3D stuff..

Okay, I have two ASUS 24" 60hz monitors...I should be able to pair all three of them to run in surround, correct?

I know it is possible with different resolutions, but I am not sure about the refresh rates...thinking.gif

IF I get another monitor I will defiantly be getting an additional 670!

I am kind of in the same boat as you are. I am either getting a 27" high resolution monitor, or a 24" 120hz. I am going to be getting a GTX 680 (probably the 4GB) as well, What i would like to know is if I can't consistently average 120FPS, is it worth getting the 120hz? I have heard some people say it doesn't matter and some people say that if I don't have 120fps, then the 120hz won't matter....?

I don't mean to hijack your thread, I am just debating the exact same thing you are right now. Interested to see what you're going to go with.

The overclockable Catleaps have run out - checking 120hz.net is pretty much the only option you have for those. Still a good deal for a 2560 IPS though.

If you've ever "upresolutioned", you should be able to interpret what the difference between 1080p and 2560 is. Going from 1680 to 1920 is roughly the same "feel", maybe even less of a difference.

Going 120hz is a much less quantifiable quality. Your mileage will definitely vary - some people will swear by it, and I'm sure coming back from 120hz will be difficult. I personally am just not ready to go back to TN.

yeah it is a tough decision! I am just not really sure, both monitors seem to have theirs pros and cons. Also, I believe the 120 fps issue is rally just dependent on your card. I think the 680 4gb should be just fine though.

Either upgrade would require some serious horsepower.

120 hz really requires you to overtake the current 60 fps maximum to show its full potential - 2560 resolution takes more power to render to begin with.

I think that for anyone on a budget, the Korean monitors are unbeatable. Since I'm pretty sure those deals will not last forever (limited availability, price increases, or both), I would advise anyone looking for a new monitor under 400$ to seriously consider them. I suggest the Crossover LED-P as build quality is the highest and the stand is adjustable, for only 60-70$ more than other Korean models.

120 hz monitors under 400$ are priced reasonably, however you are not getting a "deal" - these are TN panels with all the applicable caveats : terrible viewing angles, color shifts, bad color reproduction.

The only downside of the Koreans is a plain Bezel, barebone controls and cut features (USB hubs, card readers and such) and less connectivity.
