Quick disconnects help ?

Thread Starter
Looking to change up my loop a bit, wanna incorporate some quick disconnects from koolance

Will anyone explain to me what I would need just for a CPU ?

I'm guessing two male and two female parts ?

I know people say they restrict flow but I'm not too woried about that, I will trade a bit of restriction for the convenience.

I also was wondering if anyone could recommend a res that I can connect my pump to I have the D5. I really like the one from xspc, but kinda wanna stick with koolance.

The restriction from QDC's is actually not as bad as many people think.

http://skinneelabs.com/quick-disconnect-roundup/

Edit to answer your actual questions:
1. Yes, you will need two female and two males parts to hook up your CPU completely to QDC's.
2. I use the RP 452X2 D5 pump reservoir from koolance. It is a very nice reservoir. Very well built. When you are filling it however, you many have to turn your case vertically so that the case is standing on its back to fill up your loop.

could i get a link of that res and the latest quick disconnects from koolance? there are a few variations, i want the latest ones, apparently they have the best flow.

thinner? .. bad idea. if anything you want to use the thickest tubing you can find, if you downgrade from 1/2 ID you'll regret it.

the VL3s are really small ... i wouldn't want to run them. I bought a pair and there's no way I'd put them in there.

The VL4s are much more normal. You'll need a pair of VL4 males and a pair of females. Up to you what you want on the other end of each. Either compression fittings or threading, or some combination there of.

If you can deal with the aesthetics, I think the best thing to do is thread the male half directly into the component, and have the female ends comp fitted to the tubing. Eventually i'm going to get a pair for every component and prefill them and just hook up the tubes - a fully modular loop, no need to drain and fill if you want to swap / reconfigure something. thumb.gif

Think about that... it's also good to have a few extra pairs for some tubes to use for filling and leak testing with the expensive parts out of the case. In my opinion you can't buy enough of these things

Whether you get the 3 series or the 4 series, be sure to get the ones ending in "n" (i.e. VL3n or VL4n). The non-n versions leak an ounce or two of water when you disconnect them whereas the n series lose only a teaspoon or so.

Also, according to Skinnee's tests, the VL3 series is only slightly more restrictive than the VL4 series. I have both series and the VL4n is much more massive than the VL3n - seems like the restriction would be in proportion to mass - but not so according to Skinnee.

an ounce or two? a teaspoon? .... i don't think so. It's a drop or two at most. Maybe you're taking your time letting it sit halfway while it leaks out. You have to use one quick motion.

the 3 series is a joke, get the 4s

Here's a pic of how I had VL3Ns threaded directly to my CPU block:
IMG_2295.jpg

I recommend threading the male fitting to the block and having the female fitting on the tubing since the female one is larger and easier to grip.
