*Help Needed* How to do Raid 1 on Crosshair V

Okay guys. I have a problem here... I have a Crosshair V Formula. I use an SSD as a boot drive. I just bought 2 HDD's, and I want to put them in Raid 1 (mirror). I found a tutorial on the Asus ROG website for Raid 0, which is the same process as raid 1. However, the tutorial showed how to use it as a boot drive, not a storage drive. If I set Sata ports 1-4 as RAID, it does not recognize my boot ssd. And if I plug the ssd into ports 5 or 6, the BIOS does not recognize it as bootable.

the process is just the same, as a boot drive or not, raid 0 or raid 1.
the problem is that you can't change the SATA configuration (ahci to raid, raid to ahci) after installing the OS. you must change this before installing the OS, or your OS won't load

but don't get me wrong though, there is a workaround for this, enabling you to change this setting after you installed the OS, check the link below

Sounds great! However, will a single drive run in raid mode? Do I have to change any setting to get it to run?

Umm... I followed that guide, and when I changed to raid mode, it would not boot. I had to switch back to AHCI to get it to boot.

yes, a single drive will run in raid mode, no settings required, just set the sata in raid mode then that's it.
the only problem is your OS, it won't boot if you change the sata mode after you install windows.

if all else fails, just reinstall windows and it will run.

yeah i checked it, your concern is that you can't find the IASTOR right? that is because iastor can only be found in intel's system, it's included in intel's rapid storage technology driver.
you should look for MSAHCI, that is windows driver, used by AMD systems

try the program below, this is from microsoft and should be able to fix you problem, just download and run it, then change the sata mode to raid after.

Wow. I will never build another computer. This is rediculous. I did everything word for word, and then it still crashes and reboots halfway through the "Starting Windows" screen.

you cannot change windows to "raid" mode as it's a totally different driver. You have to reinstall windows with the correct raid driver to get it to work. Even though you're booting from a single drive, the system still shows the controller in raid mode and doesn't have a driver (hence the BSOD with your current install.)

Do this. Setup your raid 1 set, and make sure your bios is set to boot from your ssd. reinstall windows, you will more than likely have to have the raid drivers on a disk (floppy for xp or usb for vista/7) and you should be good to go from there.
