[TPU] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Specifications and Launch Date Leaked - Page 3

post #21 of 28
What on earth... GTX 670 has 1344 cores, GTX 660 has 1152 cores, GTX 650 has 384 cores!?

If the 650 Ti is GK106, that puts it with 768 cores. What. The. Hell.

Nvidia's lineup is terrible.

IMO, 660 Ti should have 1152 shaders, 660 should have 960, 650 Ti should have 768, 650 should have 576.

Yeah. The more I think about it, the less I'm inclined to believe this 384 cores bit. Your ideal lineup there makes good sense. At least better than the rumors on Nvidia right now.

Haha.. yeah.. Seems like Nvidia is saying "let's really eff with our customers' heads this time around!"

The reason why that hypothetical lineup seems to make so much sense is that, as you may already know, it's literally the only lineup physically possible with the Kepler architecture unless Nvidia decides to have two SKUs with the same number of cores. Which they already made the ridiculous decision to do with the GTX 660 Ti. And if they do it again with the 650... it's just senseless.

Right. Nvidia has a habit of weird product lineups anyway, at least for the last few years. Think back to the 8000 series. Such a big jump in performance from the 8800 to 8600 families. Minimum of 96 shaders on the 8800's but then all the way down to 32 for the 8600 GT and GTS. In the 9000 series I still think there are a couple too many versions of the 9600 that floated around. Even with the GT200 GPUs too. Same shader count for GTX275 and 280/285, but a mere difference of memory bus (448-bit vs 512-bit), then you get down to the GTX260 which has the same bus as the 275 but only 24 less shaders. The GTX460 variants, arguably, weren't jacked up too awfully bad. Then you have however many different versions of the GTX560...
I know there are reasons for this kind of thing but it just makes your head want to spin sometimes.

GTX 560 Ti is MUCH faster, Fermi and Kepler are quite different, the performance of the 384 cores is higher on Fermi architecture, also the GTX 560 TI shader clock is around 1650MHz...

GK107=32TMUs, GTX 560 Ti=64.

it should perform more like a GTX 550 Ti,

gk107 = 1.3B transistors, die size = 118mm2

Reminds me of the GTX 465 in a way. They dropped the core count from GTX 470's 448 to to 352. They castrated the 465 so much.
