vCore Offset vs Dynamic

So I've been playing around with multipliers and such, I just read a post somewhere on here saying that "offset" was better then dynamic vcore simply because it loads the extra voltage when it needs it as opposed to the dynamic increasing it all the time?

If this is true, I shall have to go back to offset.. The thing I don't like about it is that it needs more "offset" compared to "dynamic"..

I know 1.425v is really bad for a 3570k at 4.6GHz but my temps are fine.. So I'm not too worried.

Just wanting some clarification on how/what exactly LLC does? So far I've figured (and read) that it increases voltage when required for the CPU? The problem being you don't know exactly what's going through it? I know that programs like CPU-Z only give you a rough estimate of the real vcore.. I'll have to get a multimeter one day and actually see the vdrop on my particular board! wink.gif

LLC controls vDroop.  With no LLC, vDroop is allowed complete freedom so that it can do what it does:  cause the voltage to droop under load to Intel's spec.  The higher the LLC, the less vDroop there is.

 

The offset value doesn't matter as long as the resulting full-load core voltage is ok.  So, I say use the Offset because then it'll idle at extremely deliciously-low voltages.

Okay awesome, so medium LLC sounds right? I'll also switch over to offset tomorrow.. I can directly "convert" this can't I" 1.425v would be +0.240v because at stock its around 1.185v which dips right down to 1.02v at idle.

Oh, I'm glad you asked.  Can we figure out the calculation right now?

 

All I need to know is your idle voltage, full-load voltage, and the VID that Core Temp shows you when your CPU is under full load (like Prime95 or something).  :)

Okay awesome, so I figure out the actual idle voltage from CPU-Z, load from CPU-Z then use core temp to get my load VID. Using all these you then add the extra bit from "Idle" that you need? smile.gif

So I'm currently playing around with voltages.. So far it seems +0.145 is required. +0.140 makes CCC crash.

What I don't understand is that 1.185 + 0.145 = 1.330. But I'm getting slightly worse temps now? I quickly flicked back to my old setting of 1.425v.
CPU-Z reports that it's using more voltage.. So does HWMonitor?

EDIT: Also +rep to you. I forgot to this morning/last night as I was rather sleepy.. tongue.gif

I don't want to sound rude, but can you just tell me what your voltages are at idle and full-load using a Manual Mode voltage with this overclock?  Also, please post what Core Temp says your VID is while under full load.

 

I'll know what offset can be tried from this information.

Sorry for taking my time, I've been having to walk everywhere due to my parents being away.. I go for my P's next week though! smile.gif

Core temp reports a VID of 1.2910v while under load from IBT, it reports my cores a fair bit hotter than CPUID Hardware monitor and Speccy though.

Load voltage in CPU-Z maxes at 1.416 and it's not dropping back to it's idle state.. I'll check my BIOS settings and make sure C3 etc isn't off.

EDIT: Now I can't seem to get into the bios.. I'll reset the Jumper later :s
It might be the new 500GB Hitachi drive i was given :/

Load voltage in CPU-Z maxes at 1.416 and it's not dropping back to it's idle state.. I'll check my BIOS settings and make sure C3 etc isn't off.
EDIT: Now I can't seem to get into the bios.. I'll reset the Jumper later :s
It might be the new 500GB Hitachi drive i was given :/
