My dad got the same malware a few days back, well similar at least, it was some live security fake antivirus crap and browser hijacker, it even uninstalls the security essentials service :l

Anyway I spent all night, picking it apart trying to get somewhere, after crippling it a little by manually locating and deleting some files, then running malwarebytes, scanning mbr with a boot scanner, more malwarebytes, more manual deleting etc but there was no getting rid of it completely, it's apparently several pieces of malware that work together so one can carry on after one is deleted. It can be removed but I didn't have the patience and even if you think it's gone you can't be 100% sure. I just formatted in the end.

Sorry I can't be any help redface.gif Good luck getting rid of it thumb.gif

Any idea how you got it btw?

Oh and if it is what I think it is, don't run a virus scan in safe mode, you will more than likely get stuck in a boot loop. frown.gif

rogue killer will stop its malicious behavior so you can work on it

http://majorgeeks.com/RogueKiller_d6983.html

you will have to use the windows repair cd to restore the control panel and task bar ect when your done

virus scans in safe mode are the best way to search for a virus if you use long scan
