Any fire risk from spilling water into desktop?

Would the system itself catch on fire? Send out sparks from a short circuit catching surroundings (such as carpet) on fire?

i would believe if you spilled water on your psu, there could be a slim chance of it catching on fire. i would think it would just smoke rather than actually flame though

It's a common misconception that components will spark and explode when exposed to water. As long as the system is off, it's OK. Just carefully take the wet component out of the PC and dry it in the sun for at least a day for a minor spill or a week for a complete drenching (*no hairdryers*). If it's the motherboard, take the battery out.
Sometimes I even hear people drop their components into rice because it absorbs water so much (and it's very dry, though I wouldn't recommend it).

Chill out. Maybe hes wondering, just in case it happens. Or maybe it already happened. No need to be rude.
