I was messing around with my machine when I started thinking that i hated the way my storage was setup. Basicly ive got a four disk striped raid I use for program storage (4X250GB), One 120GB drive I use to split 5 OS's over and one 250GB drive that is just an empty. I also managed to use all of my 12v rails, and i'm worried that im over taxing my PSU. Ive only got the 4 onboard raid ports on my mobo and it sucks not being able to raid everything together.

I had been looking at getting something like a 6 port SATA raid controller. Then I figured i'd just be adding to the clutter inside my machine so I started thinking, wouldn't it be nice to get an external supper fast storage array setup. that way could clear out some space and have the added bonus of getting some heat out of the case and lessen the pull on my PSU.

But thats where i hit a wall. Ive got no clue of what to get. I'd like something fairly small. Not like a freaking 18 drive 4TB array. Just space for the drives I have and only one point of contact between the array and the rest of the computer. But I dont want to sacrifice performace. That and I dont want to spend too much. Any clues, or should i just stick with what i got now?

On a side note Im planning to grab a CCIE lab kit, Is there anyone out there that knows good deals on rackmounts and power conditioners? The kit has a combanation of like 13 routers and switches with an ISDN emulator.

hey I should start my own server and storage farm.
