opinions on my pump

Hey all, I'm rebuilding my computer and redoing my liquid system (not putting a first one in, just updating the existing one for new components and such)..

Right now i have the Swiftech MCP355, and it's done a good job thus far, but I don't know if it's doing "as good of a job as i need it to". Right now my loop goes from the pump, to the CPU, to the GPU, then to a 2x120mm radiator, back to the reservoir and back to the pump.. The loop im redoing is going to be the same.. pump>cpu>gpu>radiator>reservoir>pump.. I was just curious if there's any benefit to getting a bigger pump vs keeping this one, which is doing its job admirably.

it's going to look prettier than that when i'm done with it.. i'm making a mount so i can raise the pump up so the hose won't be so long and doing some other stuff too

I would say keep it. Right now my pump (the DDC-1T, equivalent to a MCP350) has enough power to properly cool my loop (pump > rad 1 > gpu2 > gpu1 > rad 2 > cpu > reservoir > pump, i see no reason why you should swap it, unless you want a more silent one (the noise of mine gets drown on the sound of the fans, so i let it go full load all the time).

Only thing i would do is get a good top. That way you have a lot more tubing options and a performance increase. Plus it looks cooler tongue.gif

Why not just buy a new pump top if you want more performance? An MCP355 with a good top like the XSPC is as good as any other combo in the price range from what I hear.

thanks guys, i honestly didn't know tops like that existed.. I'm trying to visualize in my head what I would do with a combined reservoir-pump set up like the XSPC top of Laing DDC's.. visualize how i'd put everything that is

Well, just the performance top would be all you need, but if you plan to use a simpler loop you can get the pump-res combo in one place.

I do have to ask, as i have never seen the idea of using T-lines to connect both CPU and GPU. Where did you got that idea? AFAIK, those are only used when you want to skip reservoirs at all (to use only a fillport)

I was just looking for something cleaner rather than looping the hose all over the place, and something that would hold the hose more "flat" to the front, particularly because the hose kept hitting the side panel fan in both this case, and the ThermalTake Armor case i had prior.. and i did electrical work for a bit, then worked with some pipefitters, and i was like "if it works there, why can't it work here?" the only thing i can't tell is whether there is a bottleneck where the water from the GPU comes in and goes out back in to the line. comparing temps from when it was just one big loop versus using the T-fittings, there was no difference at all.. (keeping in mind I don't have air conditioning), in the winter, the Q9550 i have now (overclocked to 4.05ghz) was idle at 31-34*C, and under load was at about 43-46*C

As the old saying goes, "if it is not broken, why fix it?". Good to see such setup works.

I was actually thinking on the GPU since it might not be getting enough pressure due to the lack of "extra push" since the T-line isn't meant for that, but if you get acceptable temps then all is good. Plus it looks very clean and you save on tubing (unlike on my loop, i had to redo parts of the loop like 3 times before filing).

I am curious... Why use a 90deg fitting from res to pump when you could just use the bottom outlet?

That's actually an older photo, i've redone it since then, but basically just moved the pump over to the left on top of that sliding thing that hides the cables, and changed from the side-outlet to the bottom outlet on the reservoir.. mostly because the side outlet started leaking.. but i fixed that.
