Amd socket fm2?

Thread Starter
I want to buy an AMD LIano 3870 today with a mini itx motherboard and wondering should I get it now or wait until amd socket FM2 comes out? I'm not even very sure what it is. Is it a new CPU or just better motherboards that add new features for FM1?

FM2 supports new Trinity APU which will improve over Llano in several ways.

I have a hunch that there will be a few really nice ITX MoBo for the FM2 socket... I would wait.

hey guys my question is whether the FM2 socket motherboards will be backwards compatible with current FM1 llano apu? I think they should be because it allows for people more freedom in choosing their preferred apu and would give them more choices ..

no a FM1 cpu work in a FM2 board nor will a FM2 cpu work in FM1 board the pin lay out id too diffrent from one to the other. As the APU line is new its not uncoman for this to happen. The APU is very cutting edge and AMD is the frist to do this to put a gpu on the cpu die

FM2 Trinity mobos are all ready and waiting but AMD cannot make CPUs fast enough. Demand is high for laptops and mobile devices, where the money is...

Yes but none of those refer to the CPU efficiency : tomshardware has a review of the A10 5800 I think and at 3.8GHz is just a bit faster than the Llano at 2.9GHz. Basically Trinity is the Piledriver architecture with Radeon 6000 series on top, while Llano is the Phenom architecture (which was already faster than Zambezi ) with Radeon 5000 on top. From tests it is clear that Piledriver does improve over Bulldozer by 15% at the same clock rate as AMD has promised. FM2 sockets fave a few more USB 3 ports and a few more sata ports, that is all. HP already has a Trinity system for sale, with the A10 5700APU, but the mobo is made with the A75 chipset on FM2 socket.

Llano has Radeon 6000 for the gpu side where the Trinity has Radeon 7000 and they are reusing both the A55 and A75 chip sets and they cam out with the A85. Yes the OEM Trinity is out but the boxed Trinity and the FM2 boards are for sale overseas but hasent drop as of yet here in the USA
