Issue with NTDLR.

Thread Starter
Ok so in the past every once and while I would find my computer has shutdown and the ''ntdlr not found'' message on the screen. If i reset and go into bios my OS drive wont even be there.

I figured out that all I have to do to fix this is unplug the power from the drive and plug it back in, set my boot priority back to my OS drive in bios and everything is fine.

As of late now, I will be trolling and the computer just freezes. I still have mouse control and can click on icons but nothing opens. alt-ctrl-del doesn't even work. The screen then goes black, still have mouse control, and a message pops up about windows not having something......, yes I know, but I can't remember excalty what it was....lol

I have to hard reset and go though the unpluging of the drive. Also I lose all my saved logins (like this site) and my history.....

Think this is my drive? Or OS.

Windows 7 Ultimate - I have disc and key
Vertex 3 240GB

Other components can be found in my 24/7 rig in my sig.

I haven't tried to wipe the drive yet as I still need to back up the data....

It is never a good sign when the drive disappears from your bios screen. Have you checked power and data cables?

When the drive goes away, the bios tries to boot from another drive (you see the ntldr error).

I've had similar experiences with my Samsung F3 500GB drive where booting up was never a problem but sometimes when web browsing everything would freeze the way you said (the cursor still moves and I could click on things but no applications would run). In my case after waiting about 10 minutes everything would resume like normal though.

I would suspect the SSD to be the main cause here since you said power cycling it helped it back up. See if you can RMA it.

Either a cable is coming loose and it drops data/power connection at random intervals or the drive is on its way out.

I would back up anything you can in the event that it is the drive.

Ok so I was able to get my hands on another 240GB Vertex 3 max iops, at crazy price. I updated the ssd firmware and cloned my OS on to it. I have reinstalled it in my case and it seems to work ok now. Time will tell I guess.

But durning this swap I noticed I lost one of my HDD's in disk managment? So I started to swap sata power connectors and found I must ethier have a bad connector ( it NEVER did this before to this drive) or my PSU is on its way out. I never have liked this unit as it is a bit noisey compared to my seasonic, so I think I will be swapping it out next time a 600w or more seasonic unit goes on sale.

I also updated my BIOS while I was at it and that sucked, because I lost my OC sheet I write my setting on.
