Sidenote: Would you mind if I PM you about my car? I have an 01 Jetta GS or GLS (I believe it's the cheapest model) and was wondering if you could give me a pointer or two on some issues I've been having with it; I'm not car savvy at all)
Go for it. I'll tell you as much as I know. My VW is in the shop right now. Turbo started grinding and pumping oil into the exhaust. Clouds of white smoke and now I'm getting a new turbo and exhaust manifold installed. A week before I leave for school...5.5 hours away.

Haha, here's a quote from the description:

That could be it, but it doesn't say whether it's mono or stereo. It looks like the plug is stereo, but I can't tell about the jacks.

So needy... I'm not really sure what the difference is so it's down to you now.

I'm going to need an adapter somewhere in the mix anyway, so I think I'll go with what mikeaj suggested, and that way I can stick to a reputable site (monoprice) that won't take a couple weeks to ship. I think that ssysuperstore place is based in China.

Good thing I didn't jump on anything yet. I just looked into what mikeaj was talking about with TRS and TRRS, and realized nothing I was looking at was TRRS. (what I need) Back to Google...

Mike, I'm thinking of just going all out and making a custom solution. (Reason I was wary of this originally was because I don't have a soldering iron right now)
Right now I'm looking at Markertek.com for stuff. Hopefully that diagram I made up helps you understand my situation better, and I was wondering if you could help me determine if this is the correct way to go about it --

Parts I need:
2 2.5mm TRRS plugs (for microphone jack + receiver jack)
1 3.5mm TRRS plug (for audio source)
X length of 4-conductor wire

Question: I can solder, but I'm wondering if I can bypass the need for an adapter since I'll just be wiring it all up myself now. How would I wire them up? Just connect each of the 4 respective wires to the right one? I'm aiming for the highest quality set up because I like overkill. If I use TRRS for the wire coming from my computer, would that cause problems wired up? Should I just go with TRS going from the computer?

Is this the type of wire I'll need? http://www.showmecables.com/product/belden-1172a-4-conductor-star-quad-low-impedance-cable-black-per-ft.aspx

Let me take a minute to figure out what's going on (never used a microphone with a gaming console before)...Let's see if I understand you correctly:

You want the laptop to output stereo audio to your headset, and you want the microphone signal from the headset to be sent to the console? The laptop has a typical 3.5mm analog stereo output jack, the headset has a 2.5mm TRRS connector, and the Xbox 360 has a 2.5mm TRS connector for mono audio output (others' voices) and microphone input? I'm guessing about the Xbox based on this:
http://www.theheadsetbuddy.com/xbox-360-headset-adapter-pc-headset-to-xbox-360-controller/?gclid=CI6dyaHQyrECFQeR7QodYnYAzg
http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=222595474

Do you need the mono audio output from the Xbox?

What connections does the headset have again? This is confusing me:
http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/legacy-products/ear-force-x11.aspx

Seems to me like you need a 3.5mm TRS jack for the laptop, a 2.5mm TRRS jack for the headset, and a 2.5mm TRS (?) plug for the Xbox 360 controller.

That cable looks okay I guess. You won't need 4 connectors for any of the lines, but it doesn't hurt to have extra. Actually, the proper way for stereo headphones with no mic is to run four wires (two grounds) anyway.

The cable you selected should be fine. I don't know why, and I've never tried it, but Mogami W2893 star quad is pretty popular for this application. Actually, there's a 24 AWG variant that's even more popular, but that is of course thicker, and it's probably too thick for most 3.5mm (not to mention 2.5mm) jacks anyway. I don't know where people buy the stuff from though.
http://www.performanceaudio.com/buy/Mogami/W2893/5603

By the way, it looks like you'll have ground from the laptop connected to the headset...and that same ground will be connected to the Xbox 360 controller. Potential ground loop problems, anybody? Anyway, hopefully no nasties couple in. It would be better for the laptop to be running off of batteries, but anyway, connecting its power adapter to the same socket or strip as the Xbox is probably a good idea here.

Yeah you got it, that's what I want to do. I was hoping I could go all out and use TRRS to stream stereo sound, but considering the jacks on the controller and the inline controller for the headset are TRS 2.5mm that won't be an option any more. frown.gif (Could I still stream stereo audio, though, If I don't use a microphone?

As for the connections the headset has, it's just the mic jack on the inline controller and the mic jack in the 360 controller. (Both TRS 2.5mm)

For the grounding, the headset is powered by the console's USB, and the console and laptop share the same surge protector. (As do all of my electronics in this room)
