How Do I Get The Best Out Of This Setup??

Thread Starter
Hi,

I'm new here, so no doubt i'm looking in the wrong place. Feel free to move the thread if it is.

I've just got a new PC, and i'm wondering if there are any simple tips to get more out of it, i havent overclocked anything as yet etc.

It runs really sweet on everything i do, i recently checked out its score on 3DMark05, it scored 3008 ... which seemed terrible to me. Is this normal? Is there anything i can do to easily boost performance???

The Specs:

AMD AM2 X2 4600+ (stock speed - 2.4ghz)
ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA Mobo
1024MB Kingston ValueRAM DDR2 533Mhz (1 DIMM in Single Channel)
MSI GeForce 7300GT 256MB PCI-E

Windows XP SP2 32bit (it sucks)

I'm pretty sure i've got all the latest drivers for everything installed.

Thanks,

Nooj

Welcome to the forum

Unfortunately, you can't edit your system specs at the moment. please wait a few days or maybe a week or more until the forum upgrades are completed.

The main reason for the low score is the video card. The 7300 is a low-budget card and it'll show in the benchmarks.

You could overclock the video card a bit maybe... but not sure about how to go with a nVidia card. I think you use Coolbits or something like that... or Rivatuner. You might want to post in the nVidia section to ask how to overclock that card. I don't think overclocking your CPU will help a lot, since it's the video card that's the weak link.

Well I think that 3dmark result is quite indicitive of the 7300GT. Mind you it is an excellent overclocker so do so with Coolbits and if you succeed come back and I'll link you to a voltage mod. Otherwise it is a fairly good rig. The ram may be a bottleneck though.

Hi,

Thanks for the almost instant replies lol

Yeah, the graphics card isnt amazing, but i just made sure i had PCI-E so i can upgrade in the future.

How do i find the RAM timings?

And, how can i possibly improve the RAM timings and/or frequency??

Thanks,

Nooj

Yeah they fixed the system specs a while ago.

Ram timings can be found using a program called "CPU-Z". Google it.

Also, you can increase frequency from the BIOS.

Hi again,

I just used CPU-Z, and found that my cores are running at 1008mhz ( 5 x 201.6 @ 1.1v) ... last time i checked before Cool'n'Quiet was installed it was its full 2410mhz, using WCPUID etc.

i guess this is due to AMD's Cool'n'Quiet. How can i uninstall/remove this. Or is it useful? (i'm not too fussed about power saving)

I think the memory timings are:

CAS# 3-4-5-
command rate: 2T
any good?

ive just tried in the BIOS, and selected Cool'n'Quiet and put it to disabled ... but its still on, the core speeds are right down!

seeing as i installed it from some exe off the AMD site, there must be somehow to uninstall it, but its not on 'add/remove programs'!

how the hell do i turn it off?
