So here's the deal, one of my friends has a home theater set up in his basement. He's needs an HTPC so he can stream his high quality stuff from the second floor to the basement. He already owns an Acer Revo, but that isn't cutting it. For 1080p rips of movies, it's a 50-50 shot. Some will run perfectly fine, while others will buffer like crazy. He also watches a lot of anime, and those files can get pretty demanding. He has a fair amount of 10bit H264 files that are filled with more grain than a sandbox. It's clear though that the PC itself is the bottleneck because I can stream all his media flawlessly on my laptop. So here's what I want to do: using what ever parts I can extract from the Revo, what would be the cheapest, but most effective HTPC I can build in order to play all his media?
