I have no experience with this mounting system. It's the latest version of the Megahalems, and I'm trying to install it on a socket 1155 mobo. I've put the 'rivet nuts' in the backplate, and put on the o-rings to hold them in place. Now I position the backplate and place the motherboard over it so that the the ends of the rivet nuts are poking throught the holes in the board. Now I screw the 'double end studs' into the rivet nuts (the short ends of the studs). I tighten them as far as possible, but the backplate is loose. Is it supposed to be loose? It doesn't feel right at all. Noctua backplates are 100% fixed before you attach the actual HSF. Something must be wrong.

I honestly love this cooler, but I think I'm gonna move on to another one soon, it just looks... A bit to bland compared to other flaming red (literally) coolers on the market.

Here's install pics in review on a 1366 socket. 1155 is basically the same.

2:43 "screw in small side of screw to the retention plate"
This is where the problem is. After I screw in the small sides of the screws, they're all still loose. And that video and article are dealing with older versions of the backplate.
I followed exactly teh animated instructions on prolimatech's site.
More googling suggests this looseness is 'normal'. If so, this is a terrible mounting system and I sure as hell wont be buying any other prolimatech coolers. I don't care if it's held tight when you attach the actual HSF - if the mounting system is flapping about during installation, then it's no good.

Basically, A is too long, and prevents B from sitting snugly on the motherboard PCB. This means that the whole mounting system will be in play until the spring loaded screws are applied to fasten down the HSF.
I could shorten A, or I could put another spacer between B and the mobo. Or I could just leave it loose as others seem to have done. Either way, prolimatech needs to fix this flaw. They obviously haven't bothered to test it on a wide enough range of motherboards.
EDIT: Yes, there is lots of mention of this phenomenon on the new once you start digging. Supposedly normal. So I think I'll mount this one with no modification, but really, the Noctua system craps all over this - it 'scales' to different boards properly. I was actually going for an nh-u12p se2, but since they weren't in stock I took the megahalems. Never again.
