C2D Build: $650 - Page 3

Maybe it's just me. But wouldn't it cost more to replace the whole thing vrs just the motherboard and ram. And I realize you don't have the money to do it right now. You could probably get around 100 for that graphic card maybe. And see how much you could get for the ram you want to replace.

Edit: I type to slow apparently...

You can get a good OC mobo, like a Gigabyte DS3 with the money you have, then all you have to cover is the ram stick really, by selling off your current mobo and ram. Just an idea , maybe you've already considered that. It's probably what I'd try to do though. That 6300 will kick serious butt if you put a good OC on it. The only thing I'd replace it with is a higher up C2D, but not an am2. You'd be downgrading your cpu if you do that.

Sadly, I haven't even considered that. Can't see getting much for them, $30 for mobo, $50 for RAM?

Wouldn't be able to make $70 any time soon.

$150 + $80 = $230
Geil RAM I posted, which I believe uses Micron D9s - $115
Gigabyte S3 - $110
$225 + shipping. Maybe you could borrow $10 from your mom/sibling/friend?

I was thinking of going for the G.Skill HZ's...

Plus when I plan to up it to 2GB, I don't want all four slots filled....there a 1GB version?

No...

Remember, Intels have no problem with having 4 sticks of RAM...

Damn man, your so close though lol. Maybe you could get just a 512mb ddr2 cheapo ram for temporary, then you could swing it. But then later you'd have no use for it when you got better ram, other than a backup stick. Or you could use it later on a family/friend rig build or something.

Just seems a shame to get rid of that 6300, unless you're getting something better. And the only cpu's that are better, are the other C2D's. Personally I don't think you should sell your whole rig, all you need is a mobo and ram. You've got $150 + a junky mobo + some ram, to make it happen. Seems feasible to me, doooo iiiiiit!!!!

Might get one dud OCing stick though. Paranoid about that - happened to two of my friends. (Corsair though...one stick for each of them couldn't leave stock. )

I have a spare DDR2 533, but its only 256MB - but $70 would take me a while to get.
