Is there any way to tell if a HDTV can accept a 60Hz+ input and display it?

120hz TVs are not capable of receiving a 120hz signal. they only up-convert the 60hz signal they receive to 120hz. The only televisions/monitors that can receive a true 120hz signal are 3D simply because u need 60HZ per eye to produce a 3D image.

This, and not only that, certain 120hz input display cables can handle so much bandwidth...
Most (if not all current ones) use dual link dvi for 120hz at 1080p
I believe HDMI 1.4 and Display Port can handle it, but not aware of any...

Yup, they use interpolation to create the additional in between frames.... I was hoping some were able to take a 60Hz+ signal from a video card .

TVs will not accept a 120 Hz 2D signal, but I believe HDMI has a spec for 60 Hz per eye, or 120 Hz in reality. I don't see the jerks who make all of this stuff enabling 120 Hz for us consumers, probably EVER.

I was wondering the same thing. Looking for a second screen to watch movies on maybe play some games from my PC. Got a AW2310 for my PC native 120 hz with a PC capable of 120 fps in most games.
Found two samsung screens same price. One with 3D and no smart TV. One with smart TV but no 3D.
The 3D TV has native 120 hz which is nice. But seeing as HDMI only does 60hz there is no point right ? Wont be able to play 3D movies from my PC unless using a blueray directly to TV ?

HDMI is mainly limited by bureaucracy, not by bandwidth. It has the bandwidth to do 120 Hz, but it likely never will allow it in 2D. There are a variety of ways frames are sent to the player for 3D. Side by side, top and bottom, or frame rate doubling. I don't see why a computer couldn't do 3D blu-ray.

What is the biggest screen with a HDMI 1.4 input that can take a 120hz source? What (hehe sorry) is their problem at not making 120hz tvs take a 120hz source. Cable technology cannot be that far behind.
Edit :
HDMI 1.4b was released on October 11, 2011.[146] One of the new features is that it adds support to 1080p video at 120 Hz.
Ok so we have the cable, how hard can it really be for a tv to have a input to accept 1.4b so we can get 120hz sources?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111203085306AA7o6Eb
what the hell?! So how are you supposed to know if you got a 1.4b cable that can do 1080p @ 120hz? Feels like the industry is trying to stagnate the techonology because they don't want to keep up. Remind anyone of anything? The original launch of HD and digital cable signals.

It's all crap and HDMI doesn't allow 120 Hz in 2D. HDMI needs to die and the hardware makers and movie studios need to realize that people are sick of their locked-down garbage.
