Possible to make a basic small water chiller?

Thread Starter
Im going to be doing a pretty over the top mATX build soon and I was thinking what could I do to take it one step farther, then it came to mind, what about a water chiller of some sort.

I wouldnt need it to go below ambient air, just enough to keep the water from going above room temp at all. Would need it to be fairly compact. Is there such a thing?

edit: what about something like this?

That's just a prepackaged TEC.

Hopefully you will be just trying to cool a cpu with this chiller and you do realize you need a rad to cool the hot side of the chiller. A 360 rad would be good with push-pull rads and a high flowing cpu block like the Supreme HF, DT Sniper, or Raystorm. D5 pump would be nice addition. thumb.gif

Only ones that are $400+. If you can wait a while, me and Mindchill are doing a build off that is designed as an all in one solution. You just get the box and hook it up to your CPU, add water and poof, you have a chilled water cooler for your computer. There's other ones out there http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2010/07/20/hailea-hc-500a-water-chiller-review/1, This one is pretty large. Ours should be significantly smaller.

Wait, don't those aquarium chillers need a large body of water that's insulated, and aren't meant to run 24/7?

Are you guys building your Compressor and stuff from A/C units, because I want something to go -0c with a body of glycol+water and I'm worried that a 500w of cooling from the Haliea's would burn out after a few months.

not to thread jack or anything, relevant stuff.

The current solutions is to use something like an Icebox filled with water, and a 5000btu+ ac unit to cool the body of water mixture down to the desired temps. Since ACs can run constantly for large amounts of time, they make more sense than an aquarium chiller, or that's what I've read.

I could have sworn i saw a simple one (on Xtremesystems maybe) that fit in two 5.25" bays? I was hoping to find something i can add as a component to my loop that chills water flowing through it to cool the entire loop (not below dew though)

Oh that one, that one is Mindchill's creation, and it's not that "simple" you'll still need two pumps, rads, CPU waterblock and tubing. If you have all that then I guess it is simple.
