HP/Newegg selling recalled B2 stepping notebooks?

So I just bought this laptop from newegg and upon opening up CPU-Z out of curiosity of my RAM speed after upgrading to an 8GB 1600 kit, I noticed that the chipset on the motherboard is B2! Weren't all B2 stepping H and P series boards recalled? Or were laptop manufacturers excluded?

Before I updated it, the BIOS on my board was the original from early 2011 ( I can't recall if it was pre-February 1st) meaning this puppy has been sitting in stock for quite some time (probably why it was so cheap, I paid $500ish after promo code). Should I be worried or was the recall strictly limited to desktop H67 and P67 being that I have an HM65 board.

I guess it depends on if the internal SATA connectors are SATA III or SATA II, remember SATA III is unaffected by this issue

So that's what Intel did with their recalled chipsets! smile.gif

I believe the issue was with a single transistor for SATA 3Gb/s.

Correct, I have a SATA 3 ssd on the way, my current Hitachi spindle drive is SATA II so it is showing as SATA II. Hopefully that will rule out issues even if I have a recalled board. Somehow I think I am safe though either way, The article specifically mentions H67 and P67, so technically my board is HM65 which does not equal H67 or P67 so I might be alright. Still a little worried seeing "B2".

Edit: I suppose I could use my Intel channel partnership through work and open up a ticket asking if I am safe or not.

That's why the current 4 dead hp laptops sitting by my computer tell me to not ever buy an HP laptop. Not to mention all the clients I've had with broken
hp laptops I could not fix due to dead motherboard.

Whew! I'm safe... Most of the early B3 revised chipsets evidently will still show B2 in CPU-Z. I checked my serial number and my specific model was not affected.

And Sodalink, this is my 3rd HP desktop since 2002 and every one is still alive and kicking. I agree some pavilions were junk with notoriously bad motherboards but I have always had good luck with HP. I also take very good care of my equipment.

Yeah, I know it proves nothing. It seems that I'm just very unlucky with HP and my friends which laptops can't be repaired.
