Thread Starter
I am having an issue with my friends computer i am hoping you can help me with.

My friend had a 9600gt that hat a 6 pin power connector on it, It died and he picked up a 9600 GSO to replace it. It does not have the power connector. And it also wont display anything, the fan runs at full speed and sounds like it's about to take off. any reason why?

His board is this POS: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=99

Can you test either card in your system? It could be a PCIe slot issue if it boots in your system.

I can but not at this moment.

His board has bulging caps (a lot of them) around the PCIe slot, that coupled with his old card burning out, and this one not working. makes me think his board is just crapped out.

Dead motherboard probably. Try to use the integrated graphics from the CPU and see if you get anything to display on that.

If the GPU fan goes straight to 100% then its probably also a heat issue with the card because the bios should automatically ramp up the card's fan when necessary....

My bet, dead mobo. axesmiley.png

For the fan issue, the new 9600GSO without the 6pin is a crippled core with 48SPs, and a 2 wire fan, with no PWM. I would also say that the board could have a dead PCIe slot. I'm dealing with a biostar AM2 with a dead PCIe slot.
