Storage/HDD setup for Photo Editing? - Page 2

I would think copying to a USB hard drive would be an option since they have big drives for affordable prices, then you can put them in your safe, or secure location of choice. Just one more option for backing up.

Have you considered an online backup service like carbonite?
There are others, maybe better organized, but this offers unlimited data for an ok price.
Deleted files are still "saved" online for a month or so and if you realize your mistake you can re-download them on your local disks.
Depending on your shooting style, how good you are to edit down your photo sessions (aka delete some of the 1million shots of the same thing you got if they don't worth it) and how many MP your camera produces, 1TB might fill pretty fast.

My backup of choice is on external HDDs for sessions that were done with PP, and I use Sugarsync ($5 a month) for the unprocessed stuff that are only in my local HDD.

I would agree online backup solutions are a good idea--I use my SmugMug site for backup of final images, and they offer a SmugVault for not that much that's good for RAW files and whatever else you want to put in there. It's super safe and secure.

However, if you have a slow-ish upload speed like me, I would prefer local backup and maybe monthly backups or weekend online backups or something. DVDs and BluRay discs have decent longevity, but some prefer insane reliability.
