USB 3.0 causes system wide stuttering

Thread Starter
I couldn't think of a particular forum to post this, so I put it here.

My problem is whenever I plug a USB 3.0 device into one of the 3.0 ports, it causes major stuttering in the OS. To the point that it makes the computer almost unusable - it makes everything pause for a fraction of a second every 1-2 seconds. Makes listening to music sound like dubstep. It does this for external HDD's, USB 3.0 hubs, USB flash drives, etc.

It does this, not on my sig rig, but an older one of mine. Specs are as follows:
-Gigabyte Z68X-UD4
-Core i3-2100
-XFX HD7970
-8GB G.Skill ECO Series RAM
-120GB Intel 520 SSD
-500GB Seagate 7200.12 and 500GB WD Caviar Black
-Creative Titanium HD
-Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Is there any fix for this, that anyone knows of? Its really very annoying.

Okay, I'll give this one a go. First off, is it a specific 3.0 device, or ALL 3.0 devices? What kind of devices are we talking about here? Does your motherboard USB3.0 share a bus with anything else on your mobo, say one of your PCIE slots with a gpu or audio card in it? Does your BIOS have any settings about how you want to configure anything that shares a bus? Just a few things that come to mind.

I updated the drivers to the latest ones and its done moot.
The USB 3 on this board is controlled by 2 Etron chips, one for the front and one for the rear. I've tried disabling the front chip and just using the rear (the one I want to use anyway) and it still stutters like mad. It does this only when I plug a USB 3.0 device into the port - USB 2.0 is fine. If I take that USB 3.0 device and plug it into a USB 2.0 port, its perfectly fine..

I'd mention Intel Rapid Storage drivers, but it does this even with a USB 3.0 hub.

Does it do it in safe mode?

Edit: Also, have you tried unplugging your other USB/peripherals or moving them to a diff usb 2.0 port? I'm really wondering if your mobo is having a hard time supplying power to the USB 3.0 device on the USB 3.0 port while providing power to other peripherals.
