Mainstream DX10 - Page 2

The 8800 will never cost $100. It is a High End card, and the lowest it will ever get is probably 250-300. There will be $100 DX10 cards, because nVidia and ATi have to cover all ranges. That is why we have the 7300 7600 7800 7900, or x1300 x1600 x1800 x1900.

What I am asking, because it seems like no one can read here, is how will the budget DX10 card compare to a midrange DX9 card. This is the same as comparing the 7300 to the 6600 or the x800 to the x1300. Generally, the older outperforms the newer, just because budget cards are very crippled. However, hearing how DX10 is so much more powerful than DX9, I didn't know would this trend continue.

Ok, first off, this is all speculation. However, the way I see it, DX10 Budget cards (8300,8400) *should* be as good, if not better than the midrange dx9 cards (7600) for two reasons. One, they will support SM4.0 which is more efficient then SM3.0. Second, and most important, while the 8300/8400 may have less pixel / vertex shaders, it will utilize the unified shader architecture, which will allow it to use what it has more effiecently. Thats just my 2 cp though.

I can only assume that come the time when DX10 cards are considered mainstream, that Nvidia will release a "lower" end version of the G80 chip capable of utilizing DX10. After all, I think it ludicrous to think that the next gen laptops will only be available with 8800GT's and above. Somewhere along the line Nvidia will have to create a full line of 8XXX cards to fully saturate tomorrows computer market, whether it be low end OEM builders (8300/8400), midrange users (8600), or high end power users (8800GTX/8900GTX). While nothing has been said by Nvidia about this (to my knowledge), I personally think the release of such cards in inevitable. However, my first sentance of the post you quoted was "Ok, first off, this is all speculation." Keep that in mind.

DX10 cards will work with XP, they just won't be used to their full potential. The G80 will, for a little while, be a kick-ass DX9 (DX10 capable) card.

1 year later. I am sure u can find a 8800 OEM in Ebay for 100$.

I have a VOODOO3 Video Card, It was the High End card Back in the Day when i got it.
If u can pay me 100$ for it. I ship it to u with OverNight S&H. lolol
I am saying is dont matter how high end the Video card is, after 1-2 year it will be Super CHEAP!
