So I swapped out the PSU yesterday. Long story short....... I could not get any pins out of the AX750 for the life of me other then molex pins. First pin I tried on the strider came out no problem easy peasy. Like butter. Also this PSU apparently has a straight 1 to 1 cable pinout so there will be no crossed over or double wires like the corsair AX750. My friend's PSU died so the AX750 went to him for 100 bucks. I had no time to take pictures because I wanted to have zero downtime for BGB 23 and get back to crunching immediately!

I shouldn't even be stepping out of the house looking like this tongue.gif It's a shame. frown.gif

derp, yes I could have lol. I derped so bad on that one because I have all the pins and I am going to buy all the wire to do longer custom lengths. doh.gif

Ah well like I said my friends PSU crapped out so it worked out this way for everyone. We just built his PC with a GS600 and we ordered from NCIX so he would have had to wait a week or so to get a new one with the whole RMA and shipping process. It was much easier for him to buy my AX750 to reduce my damages on the strider. Win win for both of us. I also really really wanted the straight pinout which the AX750 doesn't have and didn't want to deal with the double wires. biggrin.gif

Saw the link to your worklog in your signature when you posted in the water cooling club around ten minutes ago (maybe more actually).
Black and Yellow remind me of MyBadOmen's Venom Phantom. I think he'd used Vipers too wink.gif. So yeah, loving your color theme (don't let that HUE and its many color choice ruin that).

I've got about the same setup (not really but you'll understand why I'm saying this) except instead of a 45mm thick 420mm rad and a 60m thick 140mm one I've got two 280 55mm thick ones. I'm guessing that's probably about the same amount of surface. I've got the old (full acrylic) cape but it's a 250mL one too and I wouldn't want to use the top as intake. Anyway, all that to ask how much coolant you actually needed. Mine takes up a bit over a full Liter but I can see you got 3 bottles of concentrate. Were you playing it safe or do you actually need over 2L ?

I have to admit I haven't read much and mainly looked at the pictures so maybe you've already answered that question and the following one(s). If so, I'm sorry.

-I just ordered 4 of those Vipers (well not really, mine are the Apache Black being the black version, apparently the Vipers perform slightly better too but I'm not sure how true that can be) because they were on sale for 6€ a fan and I'm currently using 4 second hand Noctua NF P14 FLX fans on my bottom rad (didn't really have the choice as I bought the loop as a "bundle" and couldn't afford to get brand new fans). Do you reckon they really do deliver 2.76mm-H2O static pressure (over 3mm-H2O for the Vipers) ? I know it's a bit of a silly question to ask since you can't check that so I guess I'll ask differently: Have you tried any other 140mm fans and do the Vipers perform much better or not ?
Even if they're only average fans I don't mind. I took them because they were really cheap, look great and I've been wondering about their real performance for a while.

I'm loving the Bay reservoir + Tube reservoir idea. Best of both worlds wink.gif.

-Will you be putting anything down where the cable nest and SSD are (I suppose you will tidy that up when done) ?

Can't think of anything else right now, probably had more in mind before starting to type but some of it got lost while typing.

Hey thanks steelkevin! Glad to have you here. No prob if you didn't read it all I'm glad to answer any questions. The loop took almost exactly 1.5L of coolant. These were the only 3 left in stock at Dazmode.com (our only canadian water cooling store) so I figured I would play it safe and I'm glad I did. To tell you the truth I haven't seen this sunset yellow anywhere else that I order from. I'm guessing mayhem doesn't pump much of it out as it's not a popular color so it can't sell too well.

As for the fans I have no clue how they perform in comparison to any other fans. I could however test them against the stock NZXT fans but I am guessing there is no contest there. I run them at 800 RPM currently through the MSI control center (50% speed) because I don't have a fan controller yet. Luckily my motherboard has 5 PWM headers so I can get all 9 fans plugged in with the use of splitters. I can say that I really really really really really appreciate the near silence from these fans at low RPM. I will post a few pictures of my temps for ya. I have noticed that I don't get much temp difference with 100% speed at 50% speed. That may be due to the loop being mega overkill for a single cpu and gpu? Not sure. THE CPU runs hot as ivy's do. Hotter then I expected being under this loop but ah well. I feel I got a decent chip anyways. I can boot into windows at 5.0 ghz but I think I would need some serious cooling to get it stable at that. I run constant at 4.7ghz. 4.8 requires quite the voltage jump which makes my temps rise a LOT and it simply isn't worth the extra degrees for a measly 100 mhz.

Lucky for you they are cheap! I paid 15 bucks a pop for these bad boys and a crap ton on shipping from USA.

I got a Dwood PSU cover on the way to hide all the cables and house a single 5.25" drive bay so I can put a 4x2.5" SSD holder in the drive bay down below in the PSU cover. You bet the cables willbe all cleaned up! Unfortunately I am at a halt with sleeving right now. I have no crimp tool and I ran out of shrink so I will be ordering those from MDPC soon. biggrin.gif

and hey when those questions pop up feel free to ask away. Like I said glad to have you here and glad to answer any questions. biggrin.gif

Cheers.

That was quick and you're even answered questions I'd forgot to ask thumb.gif

The main one being what kind of temps do you get on both the CPU and GPU (I get 53° 52° 52° 54° on my stock i7-860 after hours of Prime95, all fans @minimum possible speed with a 23° ambient). My loop is in my signature (second "rig") and here are a couple photos so you can see how it is set up and why it kind of made me think of my tube routing (especially the reservoir other than that there's not much that looks like yours, mine's a real mess at the moment): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
And some took yesterday (the only difference is the bottom rad is now parallel to the case, I replaced a straight fitting by a 45° without cutting the excess tubing and the coolant level in the reservoir is lower, oh and fans aren't blowing in the same directions):

I've always thought my temps were pretty bad but I was convinced otherwise but now I'm back to doubting. And your loop will (or not) help me figure whether or not my loop should perform better smile.gif.

The other question I hadn't asked was about the Venoms doing good @low speeds (I'll never run fans higher than minimum, in my opinion it kind of makes the whole liquid cooling less attractive if it's noisy) and about the noise because I found a thread (googled for apache opinions) where people were saying the Apache and Vipers were total rubbish and were more like 50/60db than the 20/26db announced... So yeah, thanks for answering that too tongue.gif.

Oops I forgot to post the temps tongue.gif

Here they are:

CPU temps a bit above 80 degrees from Prime 95 previous to the BOINC. BOINC temps top out just over 70 degrees which is what is shown in the screenshot. I didn't get a shot of the IBT but it reached from 90-95 during a 5 pass. I only did a few 5 passes as those temps are INSANE and I don't have the patience for 12-24 hour P95 tests. So I've been boincing now for close to 36 hours straight almost and no crashes anything. Can do a 5 pass with no fail and a couple hours of p95. Stable enough for me. tongue.gif

GPU tops out at 39 degrees that's the hottest I've seen it had the furnace cranked up that day. It sure as heck beats having the GPU SCREAM at 65+% on the fan to keep it under 70C while BOINCing.

I haven't taken any screenshots of my gaming temps but I should do that soon. But here is a fun one I had the window opened on a cool day just below 0 and had my rear fan blowing cold air from the open window inside the computer. I wonder how it would do on a -30c or -40c day? eek.gif I ran some benchmarks and got a bit higher then I ever had in the past and got some really nice temps. I still can't break any higher then that. I wanted to be in the 10k cool kids club but my dinky little ref 670 will only go that high with my knowledge.

About the vipers they are very quiet at 50%. The only way I can notice them at 50% is when I'm sitting RIGHT BESIDE my computer in a silent house with the side panel off. Any other kind of noise makes it unnoticable. However at 100% speed they are definitely not quiet at all and are very noticeable but as you said, we don't do this to always run at a full speed. Silence is a major part of the loop for me.

I have no clue with the X58 platform but either way I would be happy with 50C under load. That is a very acceptable temperature to have your CPU top out at. It's really hard to compare. These IB chips pump out a ton of heat. I almost want to grab my old 2500k from my friends CPU to test it out and see what the temps are like at 5.0ghz @ 1.52v compared to my 4.7ghz @ 1.325v. I feel like the 2500k at 5.0 wins no prob. I don't have screen shots but it did really well on a HWlabs black ice GT Stealth 360 with AP-15's. If my GPU wasn't getting such nice temps I would feel like the vipers were crap but they show me otherwise.

WOW 80°C !
It is with a big OC (4.7GHz you said) and IB might heat more than lindfield (socket 1156, not X58, X58 is 1366 if I remember well) and you've got a GPU in your loop but still that seems hot biggrin.gif.

Oh god, BOINCing. Now I've got some research to do again *sigh*. Probably a new kind of Folding except it's not folding.

It is crazy hot! I have considered delidding my chip but right now is not the proper time for that. At the 4.8 overclock I get temp differences of up to 15c between cores. THis convinces me I could ultimately lower my overall temps by up to 15c. I may try it once this build is all said and done because I can't really afford a new IB chip at the moment in the event I damage it. My 2500k never ran nowhere near that high even at 5.0
