What do I need?

Thread Starter
I'm almost done planning my new PC. It will have a 3930k, a Rampage IV Extreme, 1 (possibly 2, 3 later on) GTX 690s. What do I need in terms of watts? If you want to point out one in particular, reply with a link to it on newegg.ca. Thanks for any help you can give!

EDIT: I also strongly prefer modular.

You can only use a maximum of two GTX 690s.

That said, the Corsair AX1200 Gold, Enermax Platimax 1000 or the Antec HCP 1000/1200W units should be your choice if you want to give adequate and reliable power to that configuration. Yes, these power supplies are expensive. Yes, they are worth every penny. Yes, they are the best.

I don't have a huge amount of budget left over. What can I get for around 200 USD?
I'd definately say go with the AX1200.

You won't regret any Corsair power supply purchase. These last forever pretty much, and just in case, come with a seven year warranty. It's also fully modular and you can buy pre-sleeved single braid cable sets as well.

Just as an added comment from what Thracks said, if you're planning to spend the big bucks on two 690's, you'll need to spend a lot on a power supply as well.'

EDIT: Just saw you posted something a couple seconds before me. Your best bet would be to poke around the classifieds here. I believe someone was selling a couple brand spankin new CM 1200W power supplies for $185. Be prepared to dish out close to, or the full $200 you have left over for a power supply though. Especially if you're serious about doing SLI 690's

Ok, how about just one 690 then? How much would that take?
I wouldn't recommend less than 800W, like the Corsair TX 850 v2. Stellar PSU!

These are GK104 chips we're talking about—not that crazy on power consumption. Even with the hex core i7, unless you're really pushing overclocks far, 1000W should be plenty for two GTX 690s. This is about what you can expect at stock:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_690/26.html

Under $200, at newegg.ca (didn't check the more usual Canadian suspects like NCIX, MemoryExpress, etc.), there are the Kingwin KX-1000 and Rosewill Lightning 1000W:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182239

Coincidentally, both happen to have garish LED lighting, and the Kingwin is supposed using a cost-cut (but still decent) version of the design of the Rosewill. Both are Super Flower OEM. Something like Antec HCP1200 is better but not leagues ahead.

The Lightning is an excellent choice, the Azza Platinum 1000 would make an even better one (without costing a lot more money), the FSP Aurum Pro 1000 is again an excellent choice (fitting your budget)... the cheapest premium unit you should consider for that build is the Lepa G 900, a excellent PSU for the money.
This was just listed, it would make an excellent choice as well.

Yay! FINALLY Newegg got the Lepa 1000W in stock. Sorry bank account...

People have has amazing results with LEPA power supplies (more specifically their 1600W). I doubt the 1000W will be any less quality.
