GTX 580 Crash during 3dmark11 - Page 2

84C seems way hot to me, but I'm used to 40-50C with water cooling. I would think that's still within acceptable limits. Due to the strange error messages initially, I still have hope it'll be fine with a fresh windows/driver install w/o anything other than what ever programs it's having errors. Thanks for the update, looking forward to hearing more over the weekend.

I was actually looking for something in regard to running BF3 on it and seeing the outcome. Well if it even crashes on BF3 on MP then it's really not a good sign. Benchmark apps do likely crash even when it's got nothing to do with the GPU.

One final way to know if it's faulty or not is to underclock the core speed and memory speed to 580's default clocks using MSI after burner and run BF3 again. If it however still crashes, then that guy has surely sold you a faulty GPU.

underclocked, and it passes 3dmark11. what does this mean?

Excellent! I would try going back to stock clocks and adjusting fan profile so you don't go any higher than 75C. Great call Ali, + rep.

Your welcome man. It just basically means that not enough volts are going through the GPU to attain that higher clock speed. It's a manufacturer problem and occurs mostly in OC'ed variants of these GPU's. Not every GPU can attain the same OC'ed speed at the same volts, they differ and you just experienced one.

So everything runs fine at stock clocks now, or so it seems. Should i try increasing voltage to attain the factory overclock? Right now its at 1013mV. This is one of the cards you speak of : http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-M2D15D5-OC.html

EDIT: In reference to this :http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/697120-Solution-for-GTX580-crash-display-driver-stoped-responding-but-has-recovered
Back to stock clocks, noticed something.

Low Pixel Fillrate?

You can try increasing the volts and OC'ing the GPU in small increments, all while checking for stability at each stage.
Card on stock oc is not stable, RMA that card. Or if you want changing and messing with card, dont.

I have OC VERSION of Msi Gtx 680 Twin Frozr, and i never get any single crash on any game and benchmark. Even playing BF3 and Crysis 2 many hours without crash.

RMA your card.

This.

If the card is crashing at stock because it is not stable its a dud.
