I am buying a new phone tomorrow to use for 2 years during college. I currently have a European Galaxy S2 which I will be giving to my dad.

I currently have AT&T but going with Verizon is fine too since I can keep my current number.

The only advantage of the Droid RAZR MAXX with Verizon is that the battery life is MUCH better than the Galaxy S3, which I thought might come in handy for college use. However, the android development is very poor for the RAZR, while for the S3 it is very good.

Which phone would you guys recommend, and why? I'll be picking one of them up tomorrow.

How much batterylife do you need/ how will you being using your phone? My S3 gets me through the day fine with light-moderate use. Texting, calls, Google Maps, E-mail, some browsing and maybe a game here and there.

If you decide to use the Steam app though, watch out because it SUCKS battery life.

Well the Galaxy S3 has a larger battery capacity than the S2, and I find the S2 to be fine. With moderate usage, from 9 AM to around 9 PM, the phone usually has 35-40% battery left. This is with around 2.5 hours of screen time on at 40% brightness, around 2 hours of music playback, and sending ~25 e-mails a day.

The battery isn't a huge issue I guess.

I think the S3 is a more solid choice, partially because of the removeable battery and SD card slot. I won't lie, I have no idea about SD cards on the RAZR Maxx.so don't take my word on that. The screen is better on the S3 both in size and resolution, and it fits nicely in the hand despite the extra size. I personally find the plastic too slick in the hand, but not cheap, so a rubberized case of some kind will do you well.

I always tell people to try and stay ahead of the curve as much as possible, especially with the life cycle of smart phones in today's market. This is very important in order to make sure your carrier, and more importantly, the phone manufacturer, continue to support the phone before a turnover.

Gotta give the nod to the Galaxy S3 here solely based on my point above.

Definitely get the Samsung Galaxy S III. Better choice in terms of quality and it has the most beautiful screen (people who love the vibrant and saturated nature of AMOLED will love this phone) and smoothest UI on the market. Internet upload/download speeds are also the fastest on the market.

The SGS III clearly has the stronger signal due to its higher quality antenna.

You should be fine with it then. I really love how thin/light it is as I almost forget it's in my pocket half the time.

Just got home with my white Galaxy S3. I had a European Galaxy S2 previously. The screen on this thing is HUGE!!! It is uncomfortably huge in my opinion. I hope I get used to it.
