Recon3D vs Chip itself

Thread Starter
I recently purchased parts for a new computer and have extra cash to drain out of my pocket.

My Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3 motherboard comes with the onboard Creative CA0132 audio chip.

From what i've read this is the same chipset inside the Creative Soundblaster Recon3D Fatal1ty.

Will purchasing the Creative Soundblaster Recon3D Fatal1ty soundcard make a major difference than just using the onboard soundcard?

Seems redundant, save that extra cash to spend on something else.

The PCIe Recon3D is rubbish, its an onboard chip slapped on a PCI card.

Gees, bad advice in here. Anyway, as with panything it highly depends on what you want to do with it. the Recon3D is not the same as the dedicated soundcard. The chip is not the only component of the soundcard. It's like saying the CPU is the only component of a computer and the only factor for gaming. Exact same analogy. the chip that it goes on does not make the sound quality.

Yea i'm not fully sure, from what i've read it comes with the goodies:

-the chip for one: Sound Core3D Quad core audio processor
-THX TruStudio Pro
-CrystalVoice
-Front Audio Headphone Amplifier
-Nichicon High-end Audio Capacitors(reduce interference)
It has all the connections the card has onboard as well.

What's the big difference between this and the card other than the sleek cool look that some of them have?

I didn't say it was, just that the chip is an onboard-class chip.

Also, consider that the Sniper 3 has a dedicated audio part on the PCB with high quality caps.

That a good material and not using it would be a waste, IMO.

I went for the Fatality Recon 3D and love it. I have been using it with a RIVF and the Recon3D has way better sound than the on board "creative" chip. If you want clean loud audio buy a Recon3d. The reason I bought the Fatality version was because it was red and $99 on sale.

Onboard chip on Asus boards (SupremeFX) is far away from those on the Gigabyte G1 Series.

Recon3D isn't worth it, if you really want Creative the X-Fi cards are better. Checkout OCN's Most Recommended Audio Products instead. thumb.gif

Isn't the recon3D only a 5.1 channel? The astro a50's have crossed my mind and those i believe are 7.1, any expertise on this? Would this not work with the headset + mixamp and the soundcard?
