MacBook Pro & Korean IPS

Please share your experiences.

Do all of the displays work with the MBP (Early 2011)?

Is it mandatory to buy an expensive Apple Mini Display Port -> Dual DVI adapter or can I use the less expensive a AMDP -> HDMI adapter with monitors that support HDMI?

Someone else asked a smiliar thing so i will copy and paste the exact response that I gave him?her

I dont believe Macbooks or laptops are supported by the Korean Displays.

Some sellers in Ebay say that macbooks and laptops are not supported

Some sellers also claim that it is not recommended to use these displays with macbooks or laptops

A number of Mac owners are using the Korean monitors using http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=51

It must be the dual link adapter, not the cheaper single link.

Ahh I see.

The expensive ones work.

I had the lite versions in mind.

Yeah I was aware if that. But you reckon that HDMI would not work? Mini Display to HDMI? (for displays with HDMI input ofc).

those that have HDMI have scalers and thus will do 1080p at best. those are the ones that say a PS3 will work etc... but if using the monitor i suggest puking out the dual-link

HDMI will not work for native res; the DisplayPort to HDMI adaptors exploit the fact that DisplayPort++ devices can output a native single link DVI signal (which is electrically compatible with HDMI). Your only option is to get one of the DisplayPort to dual link DVI adaptors, such as the Apple or the Monoprice one. They're not cheap because they effectively behave as a DisplayPort receiver and then have a chip inside that'll convert the signal to a dual link DVI one which then goes out to the monitor. You can recognise them by the USB connector they have to power their internal circuitry.

Forgot to say - I'm running a Potalion 27" from my late-2011 MacBook Pro with the Apple dual link DVI adaptor and it works without any trouble.
