Was this a bad TIM install?

Can you tell by looking at the TIM after removal whether there was a good connection or not? Here are the pictures of the CPU and heatsink block:

Is there any evidence of this being a bad install?

It looks pretty good to me. Was that TIM preinstalled? Also were you have temperature problems or something? What TIM was it?

Sometimes its hard to visually tell. However, any heatsink that has a preapplied layer like that is untrustworthy in MY EYES. Get rid of that and use an aftermarket thermal paste and the rice/pea method.

You can see the excess build up of the thermal paste on the edge of the heat sink.

Is this a bad install, no. You could get a way with a little less TIM next time though.

People have different methods. I place the TIM, at the size of a pea, in the center of the CPU and let the pressure of the heat sink spread the TIM uniformly out from the center.

That's pretty much what I said. I think the excess TIM on the side is because when it was applied to the heatsink they put a batch of TIM that was larger then the chip itself. Glob size depends on what kind of heatsink you are using. I typically use either a BB size or a cooked pea size depending on whether or not the heatsink is a flush bottom or has heatpipes

Thank you for all your comments. I apologize I should have stated what the situation was. That is the Corsair H100 block. The TIM is preapplied. From what I've read on here, the TIM on the H100 is decent stuff.

I didn't necessarily have temperature problems, but there were a couple oddities and I just wanted to check how the TIM looked.

Thanks!

(NOTE: H100 has been shipped back and I'm doing my Raystorm kit install today. Fun!)
