3770k temp @ stock speed

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just finished setting up my new pc and i'd like to ask some questions. I'm using a Thermalright True Spirit 120 for cooling and i seem to have high temperatures.

@ stock with prime 95 running for 15 min one of the cores already hit 61 C, i heard the temps should be much lower, am i right?

Have i seated the cooler wrong ( kind of hard though with the way ts 120 is made).

Should i give up on overclocking it if it's this high already? Should i reseat the cooler? ( again it's pretty hard to miss with this one) What do you guys think?

LE: why is my memory showing as 8 Gb ( 7.90 usable) ? is it faulty? sorry kind of a newb, it's my first home made pc and i'm pretty excited

61 is by no means a lot.

I know people temp differ eventhough they might have the same setup, but there are other variables

1-) How is your room? Is it cooled nicely? How is your ambient temperature

2-) How is the airflow of your case?

3-) How is the weather there

These are all variables that differ by people to people

I have a i5 3570k and a Corsair H80 cooling system. While playing BF3, i can see the temp hitting as high as 65 degrees which is by all means NORMAL. If i move my case to the living room which has a better ambient temperature, than my temps get even lower.

61C in yoru case is perfectly normal. Dont worry. You can OC your CPU too.

You should fill out the Rigbuilder in your account details. Just a heads up.

You could try reseating the cooler, but these Ivy Bridge processors run hot. Remember, that Prime95 is used for testing stability for a CPU and on an overclock. More than likely you will never be running at 100% CPU load unless you are folding or rendering. If you are a gamer, browsing the internet, watching movies, etc. you won't ever get close.

61C under load is not high. Even at stock. It's not low, but as I said, these suckers get hot.

I'm sure someone will have some more input for you, but I doubt you will see anything much lower. Congrats on your new build! thumb.gif

It got up to 67 after 35 minutes on one of the cores. To answer your questions, i have a Corsair 400R with stock coolers + 2 120mm on top for exhaust. The room temperature is 28 C. Weather is usually hot. I don't have a GPu yet so i'm running on the onboard one, does this affect temps in any way? i'm curios if i could game a bit until i decide on which gpu to choose, how does the onboard gpu cool? Sorry again i'm pretty new to this things. Thank you for the answers.

Well with that cooler your temps are atleast okay. I get 64 in IBT maximum setting with H100 and I think that this is fairly bad.

I would say definitely get a GPU. You can game with the 3770k but it will be extremely mediocre at best (not even that)

Trust me your temps are normal. Yes they could be lower but I doubt there is anything you can do. Prime95 puts LOTS of stressing to the CPU, so dont worry, while surfing or gaming with a regular GPU your temps will never be that high. Also when the weather gets warmer you will see the temps getting lower.

But all things aside, go grab yourself a GPU. What is your budget?

I'm not that much of a gamer so i had the idea of waiting for the 660ti ( since it should launch fairly quick) in hopes that it will be a good price/performance card. Would you have any other recommendations? Thank you again for everything. It's nice finding interested people in helping someone they don't know. tongue.gif

LE: i'm off to see The Dark Knight Rises, thanks again, will check up on the thread when i get back, have a wonderful day.

The integrated graphics are on the chip. If you are running the graphics using the chip it will cause more heat. It has to since it's doing extra work. I don't think it's a lot of heat, but Prime95 wouldn't be testing it.

Your graphics will be used while gaming, but your processor won't be at full load, so you won't see those temps you see in Prime95 anyway.

BTW, your chip temps are normal.

People helped me alot last year, now its time for me to help...

There are lots of people here in OCN that help each other. Great community.

Any how

Sure than 660Ti wil be great for you.

You can always go for the Gigabyte 670 too.

Amazing card, with great cooling, but if you want wait for 660ti and see the reviews than decide.

Remember Gigabyte 670 with the custom cooling they got is 400$ at newegg. Rumors are that 660ti will be around 350$. Maybe just a bit lower.

If you can, get the Gigabyte 670, if not, just wait for the 660ti.

Whatever you do, if you buy Nvidia, go with Kepler. Thats my recommendation.

You might also want to get an Ati card but I am not a big fan so someone else would help you with that.
