Hm, I thought I'd made a discovery, but maybe only indirectly. I had the wrong timing on my ram and it was running slowly. I fixed it, rebooted, and ran AS SSD again. I was getting over 3GB/s sequential reads. When I just did it again, though, after being in Windows for a few minutes, it was down to 2.6GB/s or so. I wonder if the initial result was bogus, or if some delayed-start service is stealing bandwidth. Guess I should run diskmon. I'll do that.

FYI, I just rebooted again and got the same briefly-nicer results. I got something similar to this the first four times I ran AS SSD:

Ya, our hardware RAID 4k-64Thrd times are really bad. Those numbers are way less than single drive! Seq should really always be above 3000 MB/sec IMO.

Hm, I just killed everything, slowly but surely, until I had only the five processes left that were basically required for me to be on my system. Nothing got it back up to that right-after-boot speed.

Bored now. I'll investigate more later.

Changed my mind and investigated more. I disabled SpeedStep in the bios and now I'm getting between 3.0 and 3.1 GB/s consistently on seq reads, even a long time after booting. My access times got better, too, by about 25%. If the person who said this is basically a slightly-hardware-assisted software raid was right, then that might make sense.

If you haven't disabled SpeedStep already, Vega, try it and see what you get.

Can you monitor clock modulation using hwinfo64 (under sensor) with speedstep enabled?
