LSI RAID Controller help, 2308 chip on-board ASRock Extreme 11 motherboard is slow! - Page 5

Every single test + you make gets your Sandforce based drives even slower then that, so keep it a bit slower, bench with more pause from test to test, and put the pc to idle/log off in order to get garbage collection to clean the drives.

Naw, the speeds are very regular. Remember these tests are spanned over eight drives, each drive doesn't get much written/read from a whole ton. Plus every time I changed the config they were secure erased. thumb.gif

I saw this post on two forums while doing some googling all i can ask is why raid 0? Like it honestly makes me blurt out "W.T.F." at my monitor. what is there to gain. whats the point of hardware raid if your gonna raid zero i am almost inclined to say it is running slowly just because it is raid 0 because i hate raid 0 so much. all you gain is increased Chance of failure and space (as well as perf) whats the point at least with other raids when you loose a drive you don't loose all your info and have to reinstall the os and software. Then again maybe it was all for purely testing but, in that case that answer would have been had with email form LSI.

Purely for performance, if you have a back up and don't mind redoing everything in the event of a failure then it's really no big deal.

So raid zero gains the most performance i would have though raid 5 or raid 6 might have been, guess they have godd perf vs reliability. the best back up is an offline back up, can't wear out and can't get fried in a power storm.

Guys, one quick question here. I am about to setup Windows 8 as clean install, I have 8x1TB disk connected to the LSI controler. Will the raid array survive this update of will I have to create it again and take backup of everyrhing before?

Also, ther is no LSI MegaRAID Utility download on the Windows 8 page @ asrock website like it is for Windows7, can I use windows 7 Utility?
