Crossfire 6950's (2GB) Vs. 660 Ti 2GB - Page 2

Thread Starter
Yeah, I'm using air cooling, so...

I'm pretty sure last time I tried slapping them that close, the top card was about 10-15C warmer, and the bottom was like 5-10C warmer.

And this was in a 600T, with pretty decent airflow.

HD 6950 CF would be around 1.8x - 1.9x the perf. HD 7950 (1150 Mhz) will perform similar to a HD 6950 CF. But you have to keep in mind single HD 7950 would perform much more consistently without any multi GPU issues like microstuttering or CF profile availability. HD 6950 CF

DX 11 games with high levels of tesselation are going to perform better on HD 7950 overclocked.

IMO overclocked HD 7950 is better than HD 6950 CF. OP you could sell your HD 6950s for 150 bucks each and just spend 30 bucks extra and grab a MSI HD 7950 OC. Its a no brainer thumb.gif

I just want to comment that man, you really love that 7950 don't you. I mean religiously, on pretty much any high end gpu thread, I see you. Nice dedication.

and from your very own posts, and OP's preference for BF3, it would be silly to switch to anything. Do you have any idea how much of a pain it is to sell 2 cards? I certainly didn't have fun making the listings, taking the pictures, and answering the questions posted about my cards. It's not worth it, and definitely not worth paying extra money for that card. I'ts a good card, but not a warrant to side grade that's for sure. It's a hassle to sell two cards, for a performance loss. Don't bring up the problems with dual card solutions with micro stuttering and all, one they are hardly noticeable, two still doesn't warrant a side grade.

Not saying the 7950 isn't a good card btw, its a fantastic card thumb.gif

as you say i completely think HD 7950 OC card is a fantastic card. better price perf than HD 7970 or the GTX 600 cards. Definitely a single GPU which can get close to a multi GPU solution perf wise is a better option. As for selling cards there are many forums like ocn or websites like e-bay. I won't assume that its easy to sell. But I definitely feel its worth the effort to go to a single GPU from a multi GPU. I have a XFX HD 6950 2GB and I really like the performance on a 1080p monitor.

From my experience going from 2x 5870s(mind you that 5870s are close to 6950s) to a single 7950, there was almost no gains aside from the 3GB VRAM which helped a lot for MSAA in BF3 and will help a lot when I do Eyefinity in a few days.

If the OP is willing to make the switch, it is a hassle, but at best, he's looking at a sidegrade. Most games have no problems with CF and if the OP isn't experiencing any problems, why fix what is not broken?
