What is this? (blue-screens, not BSOD)

I'm getting these bizarre, sporadic blue-screens (not BSOD) and I have no idea what the issue is because it happens so rarely that I don't know where to begin to diagnose. Google is no help. I'll come home every few weeks to find my computer frozen up and all three screens blued out (different hues, interestingly). I've recently replaced my mobo and my graphics cards, and have had some frustration with boot loops on the mobo (damn you Gigabyte), but the 7970s aren't OC'd past the factory setting and they seem to be in fine working order. When I reset my computer, everything goes back to normal. Could it be a driver issue? I know x-fire isn't exactly a dream w/ 7970s yet, but I haven't heard anything like this.

Anybody have any experience with this type of thing?? If you look closely at the second pic, you can see that each blue screen has a striated pattern (it's not just solid blue). Help? confused.gif

I would guess it's faulty VRAM. The first batch of 5770's was plagued with a similar problem and similar symptoms.

It's also most likely only one of your cards as well. Since the VRAM is mirrored, when the one with faulty VRAM crashes, the drivers go derp, and Blue Screen.

Try using one card at a time to see if you can recreate the problem with a single card

The thing is, it happens so rarely that I may have to wait weeks for another occurrence. Is there another, quicker way to test faulty for faulty VRAM?

If the memory is factory overclocked, Set the VRAM to reference clocks and just wait.... If it isn't easily reproducable, then it will just be trial and error waiting game...

thanks very much, I will try that. It is slightly overclocked so that's the best I have to go on.

I recently experienced the same problem. At first I thought it might be SSD problems again or CPU overclocks, but when I reset the GPU (Sapphire 7970 3GB DualX) clocks it stopped. And it was sort of random. Usually when I was watching Netflix, split the screen and started multitasking. Next I will try upping the voltage to see how it goes.
