7850 Overclock Seems to throttle

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, i recently got an XFX 7850 DD. I've been trying to overclock it and it seems to throttle back under load. I increased board power limit to full 20% but it still seems to throttle back, just at a higher level. Before i did this, my frames would limit to around 45 in occt regardless of overclock, once i increased the limit, it went to 67. With an overclock to 1ghz, it gets to ~77fps, but it will not increase beyond this point no matter how much i increase the gpu clock (ive tried up to 1200mhz). I have not started overclocking the memory yet, but i increased it at 100mhz intervals temporarily to see if it would have any affect on this, but it did not. The same happens in Furmark (at lower fps of course). Both tests were run at 1080p with shaders/AA turned up all the way and using catalyst 12.6. The cards temperatures do not get over about 75c so far.

Any help you guys give will be greatly appreciated!

I don't typically respond to people, when the post is 2 months old, but given that you had no replies, I thought I'd be nice.

It sounds like your videocard is too fast for your CPU, at your given resolution setting.

If you overclock CPU (and to a much lesser extent, regular ddr3 ram), you might get higher frame rates.
