Amazon joins Walmart in push for online sales tax

http://washingtonexaminer.com/amazon-joins-walmart-in-push-for-online-sales-tax/article/2503738

"Congressmen in both parties want you to pay more taxes on your online purchases, and once again, big business is lobbying for bigger government, which would hurt Mom and Pop.

Online sales taxes have been a battlefield for lobbying titans for years, pitting Walmart and the rest of the brick-and-mortar retail lobby against Amazon and other online retailers. But now Amazon has changed its business model and also its lobbying position, joining the rest of the retail giants in calling on Congress to aid states in collecting sales tax from online sales."

this is rather interesting. it would actually be cool to see Walmart come to australia i think we can get some Walmart products from some online retailers.

Getting taxed more is hardly an upside.
Well, I can still get stuff on Amazon that I can't get locally so I'm okay with this. On my state tax form, I have fill in a field for taxes unpaid for online purchases anyway and I ended up paying for the taxes I didn't pay when I bought stuff online last year, which was mostly from Amazon.

Taxes pay for a variety of government services like...my roads. I like the (mostly) smooth roads I get to drive on a day to day basis. It's aight. Make bank, pay taxes. It's not really that shocking.

I'm confused, why would Amazon want to make their customers pay sales tax? Isn't this what put Amazon on the map? I mean four years ago when I purchased a Samsung 52" LCD I paid almost $600 dollars less than I would have paid locally, Best Buy could not even come close to matching that price point!

No you don't. Walmart is a disgusting company, and a bane of civilized life.

Walmart is home of rednecks. Or it will be in your case bogans. Trust me. You don't want one.

Figures, if Amazon is getting bullied into sales tax, they might as well try and drag everyone else down with them.

Amazon has partners and affiliates within different states. The states are forcing them to gather sales tax when they have those within their borders for purchases made from that state. Take my lovely and broke state IL they chased all those amazon partners out when they tried to take sales tax.

Essentially Amazon must realize that too many states are coming for them so they are trying to level the playing field with other online retailers. They know they can't compete if they are one of the few that has to charge sales tax.

Well if amazon starts charging sales tax I won't buy anything from them the only reason I bought stuff from them is to avoid sales tax.
