MCW60-T Disassembly and Mod

Thread Starter
Well, I was feeling a little tweaky, and decided to take the gpu cooler out of my line and dismantle it, with intentions to mod it with a 50mm 226w pelt. I have to go out of town for a week, so I'm gonna order it when I get back.

The pelt that came in it is rated 188w 40mm, so Im gonna try and spin a 50mm pelt to make it fit. I want to get some more heat transfer going than that, I saw a 350w 50mm pelt on ebay, but then I saw in the description "225-350w", I think its the same...

Either way, It seems it will fit with a little bit exposed at the corners, I hope some extra neoprene and grease can cover that, I would spray the card, but then I cant RMA it

I realized with a slight turn the 50mm pelt should be workable

You could do either that, or sand down the base of the MCW60 until it is completely flat, without the raised portion- Use heavy grit sandpaper, or a mill to get it flat. After that, just use a coldplate on top of it

I was thinkin about that but without the pelt in the middle, the screws still become a problem. I thought maybe use just the backplate to keep everything together without the problem screws, but it would surely leak.

I'm hoping that the exposed corners of the pelt won't smolder and burn the neoprene

Sorry to rez this thread, but I am about to purchase an MCW60-T for the 8800gtx, and I would like to know how well this idea worked for you.

Thanks.

Mister Crowley - do you still have the original 188W 40mm pelt? I would be happy to buy it from you as I have been looking for a powerful 40mm peltier for ages...
I did try to PM you, but the board wouldn't let me - probably as I am a new member here.

Thanks

No - I'm looking for a 40x40mm pelt. The one used on these swiftech WBs (188W) is the most powerful one i could find, but I can't find it sold on its own anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The biggest 40x40 peltier that I can find is 168w (15.2v, 16A).
