Selling modded/scratch cases?

Thread Starter
Just wondering if any of these amazing case mods ever trade hands. I love coming up with ideas for mods and think that if I got a bit better I could make my hobby into an on the side job. I am not talking about what the mnpctech guy does but just like selling on ebay, craigslist, or the marketplace here.

I sold 9 custom scratch built cases on E-bay that I had made and were done with and they didn't sell for even the cost of materials to make them. It was what I had expected though.

I also don't think custom/modded cases that are used will sell for very much, because your customer base is going to be very small. We all have different tastes, and most of the time, mods detract from the resale value unless it is professionally done (laser cut) and something super spectacular. Part of the beauty of modding is doing it yourself and being creative. That sense of satisfaction of buying SOMEONE ELSE'S mod/creativity goes out the window.

All of the cases were made of acrylic and most of them were at or over $100.00 in materials and the most any one of them sold for was $50.00.

Here are some of the examples of cases sold: http://s954.photobucket.com/albums/ae26/Lazerwerx/

I don't do case mods but I'm guessing your best bet from what the others have said is mod cases on customer demand. I would think people would pay more for a case that's exactly how they want but don't have the tools/time/skill/etc to make it themselves. As to where to find such customers, I have no idea. tongue.gif
