The problem is where? teaching.gif

ok, thank you.

I tried to make it clear I'm a noob to PC gaming. Nobody mentioned my monitor's resolution and how it affects gaming, or if I where to upgrade to a larger monitor in the future. For all I know, "high" settings may be nice enough for me instead of "ultra" settings; how do the graphics compare to Skyrim on a gaming console?

My current plan of action is to sell my computer (since the OEM Windows license is non transferable = $ lost). I have a dozen of other items to sell also, so who knows maybe I will budget more. Its not that I don't have the money, but rather I live frugal.

In the end, I suppose I'm on my own. I have overtime at work the next two weeks so I'm not in a big hurry.

Well on your monitor, the 7870 would allow you maximum settings in Skyrim. The difference from the 360 is probably going to be things looking a little nicer/less blocky, and being able to see really, really far. There's tons of settings you can change if you have more graphics power, and distance you can view things is my favorite.

Now with you monitor you can also power the game just fine with a lesser video card. Some people aren't in to graphics settings. It really comes down to how much you want to spend - more being more reasonable if you'll also play other games.

I'm running in single channel?

Vishera on a new socket or AM3+?

And waiting for a new chip that's "right around the corner" is a slight pain biggrin.gif. Why do I have a feeling they will release it in April 2013... lol I know someone that is still waiting for the FM2.

Yeah, PD is going to be socket AM3+. You're running a single 4GB right? (I may have misread)

I see, no I'm running 4 1GB sticks. Reason being, I originally purchased a dual-channel kit (2 x 1GB), but 2GB on Windows 7 was causing some issues so I purchased another 2-channel set due to their low price.

Skyrim is a cpu intensive game.
I had a 960t @ 4ghz and a 6970 and I would get constant stutter, especially in dungeons.
Changed to an i5 and gtx 670 and its perfect now, even with full texture/graphics mods.
I have a FX 4100 And a MSI 6770, They Run skyrim Fine mabey not on Ultra But still Works perfectly Fine.
But yes Mabey a i5 and a higher end Gpu will do but it is alot more Expensive.

Change of planes again. I kind of like MisterFred's approach, except I may go with a cheaper graphics card.

I know I may get hate mail for this, but I'm going to overclock the Athlon and throw in a graphics card. It will be a nice experience, because I will eventually build a all new computer. It will be fun to see what performance gains I will make from stock -> overclock -> to beefier CPU... as time permits.

I'm running a fan/heatsink from a AMD Sempron processor, so I'm thinking it may be a good idea to upgrade that.

All I have to loose is, the cost of the upgraded fan/heatsink, unless I get one that has adapters to fit other sockets (say 1155 / AM3+). I welcome any heatsink recommendations.

I didn't even think of that.. is this what you guys would have done? biggrin.gif It was on sale for $25 + free shipping, so I purchased another set (starting with 2GB was a bad idea). Like I said, I'm new to PC gaming

Op Ive bulit sevral rigs to play Sky rim on high and on ultra you are running a single monitor bot AMD and Intel will do this and with in your budget. With AMD and a AM3+ board you are set for 2 or more years Id recomend the PH II 965 it clocks to 4.0 very easy and will run any single card and with 1 monitor all you need is a single gpu something like this
