RPG is not really the best term. Adventure is a more accurate description of Half-Life.

I never said other FPS shouldn't have a story - I said most FPS players of this generation don't value story very much if the guns are cool and the graphics are great.
Bioshock, Deus Ex, and Stalker were all role-playing games. smile.gif I agree with you about Metro.. fun game (albeit a bit buggy).

I wouldn't really call Bioshock a RPG. Regardless most FPS game are story driven. Battlefield, CoD, Syndicate, AvP, Crysis, The darkness, homefront (running down my steam list) etc etc.

In fact almost every FPS released this generation has been story driven.

Well by definition role playing games are defined by 2 things: non-linearity and leveling - usually accompanied with some type of inventory and quest system. Bioshock is definitely a playable narrative. Crysis? You seriously consider that story driven? The main attraction of Crysis was the gadgets and the graphics - the story was of little consequence.

To each is own I guess...

I don't consider it the main attraction I consider it story driven. I don't consider the story the main attraction in any type of game with the possible exception being point and click/adventure games but even then the puzzle hook is a bigger part of the reason people play it I'd say.

well, as much as ive enjoyed doom 2 in my childhood, I really wish they wouldnt do a doom 4

not that i dont want to see it happen. I want to see it happen, but now?

Carmack's time has passed, he has no power over how exactly his game is made as can see in Rage. It doesn't matter if he realizes the problem after the game is done, it only matters BEFORE. He can only fix so much post-launch.

Doom is a series to legendary to be messed with. With a big publisher behind all these, I really really hope the series dont get destroyed, because its simply too easy a thing to do. As for how easy one can mess up a legendary franchise, just look at diablo.
