as for changing the speed of the fans, you can always get a SPDT switch, and use that to switch the positive lead between the 5v and the 12v for two different speeds.
or you could make 12v the one that doesnt change, and switch the negative lead between the 0v and the 5v, which means you will be switching the fans between 12v power and 7v of power.
basically, using one switch you can have full power / 40% power or you can have full power / 60% power depending on the setup you use.

A fan controller sounds a heck of allot easier biggrin.gif

He is simply telling you how to get different speeds by chosing what you say "ground" is.If you use the 5V output for ground then you have a 7V difference of potential (when using the 12V or yellow wire in the molex for the high side).Really it is pretty clever.Certainly a fan controller will work but this is cheaper.

I was not trying to bash the guy biggrin.gif

It is a creative solution that is different then just slapping a fan controller on. I simply said it would be easier then to start hacking away at your PSU wires.

Yes,you certainly do not want to hack the wiring on the power supply but with wiring there are so many ways to "skin the cat".In this circumstance do the hacking on a connector you plug into the power supply molex.
