ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 13

Found an issue with the Extreme11 in PCIe3.0 and HDMI audio on my GTX670. I'm assuming most people would use the creative onboard but I prefer to use my receiver. Setting the PCIe downstream to Gen3 causes crackles and pops in the audio. While bitstreaming there is no issue, but using the PCM outs for 7.1 surround the issue is quite noticeable. Changing the downstream of the affected card to Gen2 fixes the issue. Tried with 2 different cards and both had issue. More likely to do with the X79 and PCIe3.0 not being fully supported. Not a biggie as theres nothing really gained going to Gen3 at this point but still an issue I'd like to see ironed out.

Is there a way to stream 7.1 PCM though AMD's cards?

I don't see why there wouldn't be. Your receiver should be showing a PCM signal if you're using HDMI from the GPU. Just set it to 7.1 and it should work.

Ah, ok. I got the pass through to work. Too bad it doesn't use any of the sound blaster capabilities built in on the motherboard, and there's no room for my Auzentech X-fi HDMI sound card.
I guess I'll have to get some analog cables for gaming.

Also, my audio receiver is coming in as an actual video screen in windows. Very annoying to have a screen that applications can open in that I can't even see.

I found one more interesting thing. The HDMI out on the AMD card will only work on the first slotted PCI card if crossfire is on. It will work in the other cards as long as its not part of the crossfire group.

Happy to see the improvement!

Thank you verry much for those info. I have been going crazy for weeks and week to try to get my RAID-10 write speed to normal with out any luck. Been in contact with AsRock in 3 counties but no one has ever mentioned this option before [enable Disk Cache Policy]..... I did, built the array again and write speed more the trippled in speed.

Thanks again!

Not a problem at all man. I'm glad to see that the CACHE option helps too. I was kinda upset on how the RAID10 performed initially, thinking about I wasted $800CDN on a mobo - could have gone for a cheaper mobo + a LSI RAID card..... But I'm a happy camper with the Extreme 11 now after I sorted out a few small issues.

Right now my array only has 3 drives as I pulled the bad one out for RMA. The MegaRAID Manager makes it very easy to work with the RAID array. Will see how well the "Assign Global Hot Spare" option works when I receive the new drive to add it back to the array. smile.gif

The B&W P5 headphones sound very good too with the creative sound chip + headphone amp!!! I think it is a great deal for all the bells & whistles came w/ the mobo. Found myself fortunate to be an Extreme 11 user. smile.gif

Peace,
jack

I had an X-Fi Hometheater also. Unfortunately it died. But in my experience it also seemed to have that phantom monitor issue where the receiver is detected as a second screen. I use a tool called mouseclip to stop my mouse from entering the area beyond what I can actually see. Very weird that the HDMI only works on the first card. On my gtx670's either will work.

Have you been using PCIe3.0 or 2.0 for the cards in question? I'm wondering if this could be nvidia specific and driver related although I do remember reading someone with a RIVE and radeon suffering HDMI handshake issues in PCIe3.0

I'm using PCIe 3.0 , Its a AMD thing. I just came from Nvidia cards and you can use any connection on any card. On the AMD stuff, things get weird.

I just realized my receiver doesn't have 7.1 analog inputs. I'm going to have to figure something out for my games.
