HI new to this forum read alot of stuff here recently however anyway I have a asrock x79 11 and this was my first pc build done all sorts of minor component things to pc's before but never actually built one of my own lol anyway having a problem. I get no post beep trying to do a test boot and nothing but there doctor debug gives the error code A2 (IDE Detect) any ideas? Unfortunately I cant hook it up to a monitor atm cant even leave it on longer for a few seconds still haven't gotten all my water cooling parts yet. I've read the manuals until my eyes burned took 3 days for me to build this thing to make sure it was perfect but now this I would think it trying to detect my drives but still what IDE's are they talking about there isnt one its sata. Read another post someone with the exact same problem down to the letter with a X79 6 it was like a 5 month old post but he never got a reply. Anyhow any ideas would be appreciated and like your forum been looking here alot the last couple weeks.

Hello SociallyInept. Welcome to OCN.

First of all you stated you are waiting for your water loop and cant leave your PC on only for a few seconds. Does this mean you are testing your PC without a CPU cooler?? I hope not. The heat created by a modern cpu can reach several hundred degrees within seconds. Without cooling you can damage your cpu or motherboard within seconds, even before the computer has a chance to start loading Windows.

With your IDE Detect error it sounds like you dont have something connected properly. You need to make sure you have all components seated properly and have all power & data cables connected properly.

I applaud you for taking an ambitious project for your first build. The Extreme 11 + a water loop are two complicated components for a first time builder. Please do your homework first. Because any small mistake can lead to catastrophic failure.

Please put your components in your sig so we can help you more. Here is how http://www.overclock.net/t/1258253/how-to-put-your-rig-in-your-sig#post_17255926

Yea, like Swolern stated, very brave move for you to work with such parts on the first build.

Let us know what components & setup you have, we can help you better. Learning fast here Swolern wink.gif

One thing is there is no POST beep on the Extreme 11, only beeps when an issue is encountered.

good luck!

Swolern,

are you running @ 5GHz with 4x4GB 2133 ram speed @ BCLK 100? I'm starting to wonder if it is the 8 dimms I have making it harder to OC (based on what I read online) .... I can get 4.5 and 2133 to work w/ 4 dimms 4x4GB. Unstable as soon as I use all 8 dimms 8x4GB.

jack

thanks for all your quick replies ^^ got a possible answer though he stated

You want to go into the bios and make sure that the sata mode is set to AHCI and not IDE. In an Asus board's bios it's under the Advanced tab and it's called the sata configuration. You have three choices , IDE, AHCI and RAID. Because you have a SSD you want to set the sata mode to AHCI.

think I've heard this before I think I actually read it in on of the phone book size quick user manuals I have laying around and told myself I'll get to that when the time comes but forgot doh.gif just not sure how that can disable a post beep since you can test a board before even putting it into the tower. As for now ya I know it was dangerous so I wasnt leaving it on any longer then to hear the magic beep but for now it stays off until I get the rest of my stuff hopefully today and see if that works if not well I'll be back ^^

nope didn't know about the no post beep thanks for the heads up and sorry for the double reply dont know how to edit my post. I'm not entirely new only thing i've never done is a water system so that has been a experience ^^ This just happens to be the first build I've done for my personal self never had the cash to do it before so just being overly manic and cautious about things I guess =P

Yes I'm running 4x4 2133 BLK 100. 8 dimms definitely put a toll on your CPU OC. The Asus RIVE had the same issues with all 8 dimms populated.

I've got up to 5.1ghz stable @ 1.45v. I got 5.2ghz @ 1.49v boot into windows but unstable during stressing, I didn't want to push voltage any higher to get 5.2 stable. Those were both LLC @ level 2. I try to preserve my 3930k so my 24/7 OC is 4.7ghz @ 1.39v LLC level 3 and only go up higher when needed. But every CPU OC a little different so YMMV. Better cooling definitely helps. And dont worry Jack I'm still learning too smile.gif

Good pointing out no post beep, I forgot to tell him that.

Thank you for confirming Swolern. I tried different BCLK and RAM speed (changes when BCLK is changed) combinations to see if there is one that would work the best. Not much luck there. Looks like BCLK should only be set at some set #s. For example, with 105/125/133 BCLK & even higher then 2133 RAM speed (not 2400 though), machine would POST and Windows logon worked fine but not stable (would BSOD when running performance assessment). Machine would not even POST with certain BCLK & lower RAM speed settings, 107 or 108 BCLK with under 2000ram speed - can't even POST. Tried different VCCSA voltage (up to 1.2v), made no difference. Not an expert but also tried changing CL timing (CL11-11-11-28-171 instead of CL 9-11-10-28-171), made no difference.

So I'm giving up. Been spending too much time trying to get 2133 to work with 8 dimms. Think I should spend the time to play some video games!

Loaded 4.4 OC Profile in BIOS - lowered Offset voltage from +0.08 (profile setting) to +0.06 (will lower more if 0.06 works fine) = max 1.34v @ 4.4GHz with 100BCLK> loaded XMP Profile 1 > set RAM speed to 1866 instead of 2133. Done!! Cores temps fluctuate between 64 to 85c with max package temp at 87c when running P95 blend test.

Will try to lower vCore Offset voltage for better package temp and be done with it - oh well - for now. LoL
peace,
