Asrock doesn't really say anything about downgrading bios. You could always flash your bios to an older version. http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X79%20Extreme11/?cat=Download&os=BIOS But BE CAREFUL, they have a disclaimer on their website that states if you corrupt your bios that Asrock is not responsible. I would actually contact Asrock first, to verify, before you do it.

Just recently purchased the ASRock Extreme11 and G.Skill Ripjaws Z 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 2400. I currently have three Diamond 7970s (TriFire), 256GB Vertex 4 SSD, 4TB Hitachi Deskstar HDD, Corsair AX1200 power supply, Cooler Master HAF-X case, and other misc parts (fans, optical drive, etc.). These will also be part of the system. A few quick questions...

1. Do I need to have the cards in slot 1, slot 3, and slot 5 for 16x/16x/16x PCI-E 3.0 functionality, or will they also work fine in slot 3, slot 5, and slot 6 for 16x/16/x16 PCI-E 3.0?

2. Based on the posts in this thread, should I be worried about running the G.Skill RAM at its rated speed of 2400MHz with 10-12-12-31 timings? Some people on here seem to have compatability problems.

3. I plan on getting six 512GB SSDs to run in a 3TB RAID-0 array using the LSI controller. Early posts in this thread seem to indicate performance problems. Have these issues been worked out through BIOS updates? If not, what workarounds should I be doing for optimal performance?

Thanks.

Edit:
Sorry I was incorrect before. Manual states 3-way x16 needs to be in slots 1,3,7 or 1,5,7.

1. Slot 1 is always 16x. Slots 3, 5 and 7 are 16x as long as nothing is in the slot above them. So...if you put something in slot 4...both slot 4 and slot 5 would run at 8x.
2. I'll bet you don't have a problem with just 4 sticks. But let us all know.
3. Don't think there have been any updates to address the issue....but performance is pretty good anyway. Guess it all depends on your expectations.

You can't do too much until you can get to BIOS. May be you had already done this but I would try:
1) unplug the power cable
2) remove the CMOS battery on the board
3) push power button on computer case to drain remaining static
4) (optional) reseat video card and let it sit for couple minutes if you are superstitious
5) reinsert the CMOS battery
6) reconnect power cable
7) power up machine & pray
Perhaps you can check with ASRock support to see if there is any secret way to reset the BIOS.... good luck!

Thank you for the advice, but it dind't work. I returned the board to my local pc dealer and got a new one right away. This one is sitting happy with 2.0 smile.gif.
MSI also gave me a UEFI/GOP bios for my GTX670 so now I am no more legacy. lol

I received the motherboard yesterday. Got everything put together. Already had horrific experiences with this board. I installed my three 7970s in slot1, slot 3, and slot 5. It's the way the manual says to install them. UEFI setup had them at all at GEN2, so I set them to GEN3 and rebooted. Once I was in Windows I checked the PCI-E speeds through GPU-Z and it showed the first card running at 16X PCI-E 1.1. The other two cards were 16X PCI-E 3.0.

The board came with UEFI 1.30. I updated it to 2.00 to see if it fixed the PCI-E issue. Upon reboot I noticed no video signal to the monitor until completely loading into Windows. Once Windows was loaded I had a signal and could see my desktop. I tried getting into the UEFI by hitting the delete key on boot until what should have been the UEFI screen. It seemed to have entered the UEFI setup, but I can't confirm because I couldn't see anything at all (no signal). Hit the reset button and sure enough, video signal only when Windows is loaded. I could get into the UEFI setup just fine with 1.30 with a working signal to my monitor. I flashed to version 1.70 from within Windows. Rebooted, and the same thing, only have a video signal when Windows is fully loaded. I then made the drastic mistake of clearing CMOS. This puts everything at default and automatically places you at the UEFI setup on the next boot. Since I had no video signal I couldn't see the UEFI setup to get out. Rebooting didn't help either since it places me back at setup. I was stuck. Different monitors and connections didn't help either. I got lucky by guessing where the cursor was on the screen and clicking on Exit and then hitting enter. To my amazement the system rebooted and loaded into Windows where I could get a video signal. I promptly flashed back to version 1.30, but now I'm stuck with PCI-E version 1.1 on the 7970 in slot 1. Grrrrrrrr!

HEY GUYS, GOOD MORNING AND OR EVENING smile.gif ^_^. SORRY FOR THE THE LATE UPDATE ABOUT MY TEST POST FOR MY CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 2400MHZ MEMORY.
THOUGH I CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE A CAMERA TO SHOW THE ACTUAL PROOF OF MY MEMORY KIT PLEASE NOTE. (I WILL EVENTUALLY GET A CAMERA SO I CAN SHOW YOU GUYS thumb.gif ) I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING MY ASROCK X79 EXTREME 11 BOARD WITH 32GB 2400MHZ (8GB DIMMS) AT IT'S FULL RATED SPEED!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifthumb.gifdevil.gifdevil-smiley-019.gifdrunken.gif I AM SUPRISED MYSELF AFTER I HAVE READ ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS SOME OF THE OTHER GUYS HERE ARE HAVING PUSHING PAST THE 2133MHZ MARK AND KEEPING THE SYSTEM STABLE ETC. AFTER I HAD INSTALLED THE KIT I WAS NOT SURE WHAT TO EXPECT AND THEN IT JUST FIRED UP LIKE NORMAL AND I TOYED WITH MY PC FOR A WHILE GAMING , ETC. NO PROBLEMS TO REPORT AS OF YET ^_^. (HOPEFULLY IT WILL STAY LIKE THAT ^_^. biggrin.gifrolleyes.gif ) I CHECKED IN THE BIOS AND I SET IT FOR X.M.P. PROFILE MODE AND IT IS RUNNING AT THE FULL 2400MHZ ON ALL 4 DIMMS. THE VOLTAGES IT IS RUNNING AT IS 1.65 VOLTS. NOW ALL I NEED IS ANOTHER 32GB 2400 MHZ KIT TO COMPLETE THE 64GB . AFTER THAT I WILL POST AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME RUNNING ALL 64 GB AT 2400MHZ TO SEE IF ISSUES ARISE. thumb.gif
