ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 42

Before asking here, I made detailed testings. I am not a hardware newbie, and I know well the hardware basics. So I have pretty covered all the power/psu correct installation of cpu and memory. I am asking for your help about the Dr. Debug messages that should appear when turning on the m/b. Because I have never owned this motherboard before, I am asking if it is normanl the Dr. Debug dispay, not displaying any messages. And because I have never passed of this problem, I have never managed to install any OS. That's why I am asking if it is possible to install a BIOS without cpu and ram, or how is it possible to install a BIOS without entering any os like DOS or Windows or without any video signal on a monitor. If there's any way, a refference link or a quick guide would help me a lot. Also please note that I am using a Xeon cpu and ECC memory. There's no other CPU to test (I think I can find non-ECC ram to check with an i7 cpu) but I cannot get my hands on an I7 cpu.
That's why I am focusing on the BIOS. According to manual, even if CPU or RAM was corrupt or not compatible, Dr. Debug should show me an error code. I get nothing.

Correct it should show. I ra'd a extreme11 for a similar reason. Mine worked but you couldn't tell what it was saying as half the lines didn't show. RA was easy but if it needs to be returned to the manufacturer it will take a long time (6+ weeks for oz for pre bent pins!) confirmed as prebent with the replacement by the supplier as that also had prebent pins only not as bad... Got to love the current standard of QC across the industry...

Personally I think I would RA within the DOA period as even the first release of the bios had the dr debug operational. Just make sure it isn't human error (clear CMOS button for example) related.

I have already ordered a new Bios chip, just in case. Is there any IRC channel for AE11 owners? I've setup channel #extreme11 on freenode servers for AE11 owners to hang out and chat. I want this motherboard for gpgpu server and I want to setup 7x7990. Especially for gpgpu, the pci-e x3.0 of AE11 is a great advantage. As i saw from the specs and the owners manual 7 gpu (or 14 in my case) should be no problem. I hope I could jump start my m/b though...

Hello i am a new owner of this mobo.
I've just installed an evga gtx titanium card on pcie slot.
on bios ( 2.70) NB setting pci 1/2/3 gen(x) is selected as gen2.
Now, i'm confused about how to set gen mode. 2 or 3 ? ( someone says x79 is not compatible with gen 3 pcie) i've a 3930k cpu
When i select gen 3. two new options to be selected appear ( downstream / upstream) ?????? an now ?????.
There is somewere a complete explanation about x79 extreme 11 bios settings ( the manual is very poor about this).

someone can help me ?

regards

walter

I still get no post messages from my AE11. Is there any way to flash bios without cpu and memory like ASUS flashback? I am looking at the manual and the net, but I see that there is not such capability. Can you please verify or can you point to some page or procedure to flash my AE11 without cpu and memory?
Thanks

I had a 560ti oc880 before, machine ran fine when i set all the PCIe up/downstream to Gen3. I now have a 680 + the 560ti as dedicated physx card, all PCIe up/downstream are set to Gen 3, machine has been running fine. Honestly I don't think it matters much but I could be wrong. But what i can confirm is my machine has been running perfectly fine w/ Gen 3 settings.

peace

No one replies to help? Do you even get some sort of Dr Debug code on the Dr Debug digital meter when you power on your machine? The Dr Debug digital meter on my mobo shows a code and flies through different codes during POST. Eventually it will turn off to show that everything is fine during POST.

The meter even showed some code when I turned off some simple sleep mode/power saving LED in BIOS.

Does the digital meter show anything at all?

I tried to help him earlier, going down the normal troubleshooting checklist, but he bit my head off telling me he is no PC noob. rolleyes.gif
He stated his debug never turns on at all. I think he believes it might be related to the bios. But he wanted someone to test if you can flash the bios without a a CPU or RAM. I dont think anyone here has done that. And im not willing to disassemble my water loop to do that either.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I get nothing on the Dr. Debug display. Nothing shows during startup. I was wondering about the power supply.
Right now, I am using a normal 500W psu, but it has only 1 4pin CPU power supply, but I use adapters for the 2 8pin cpu power supply. I have checked and verified that they power the AE11 with 12v. When I turn on the AE11, it draws around 60Watt of power.
What kind of power supply are you using? I have ordered platimax 1500 watt psu. I see that high end psu have 2 8pin cpu power supply.
On the AE11 manual says that there is no problem to power with 4pin cpu power cable. What's your opinion?
Thanks.

haha yes, you were trying to help and I saw his reply, and you are always keen to help, thumb.gif my post was not directed to you. I was just surprised that there was no reply after you tried. I agree, don't want to remove my cpu as well so it is hard to test what he is wondering.... smile.gif
