ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 61

I still havent got confirmation either way on the last 2 questions and ive found a 3rd problem. Lol

I think either my psu or the atx power cable is knackered. I had the whole system built and plugged the main into the psu and I turned it on and it clicked (tripped out). There is no power to the board. I checked connection and everything was plugged in. I then pulled the atx cable out of the ax1200i psu and was able to then test and the psu powered fine. I then pulled out the atx power cable from the board and plugged the other end back in the psu. It tripped. Click click. I pulled out the nearest to me half of the atx plug that was in the psu and the psu tested fine again. So it looks like if have a dodgey atx cable. Anyone ever experienced this? Maybe this was the cause of the Asus rampage v formula meltdown. So im pretty sure its the cable. I will have to try and find another at a local store.

I was so close and it was 3am. I just wanted to see it turn on before I went to bed. sad-smiley-002.gif

And I need some help.

Do I need both mb pcie power Molexs connected if I have 3 gpus. Or just the one at the bottom of the board.

Also I have 2 8gb sticks of ram installed into slots a1 and b1. Or should it be a1 and c1.

Thanks

I would plug in both just to be safe. I have had 3 and 4 GPU's in mine and I've always had both plugged in.

I've got a question about RAM. I need to bump mine up to 64 GB of ram, and last time I did that with my Corsairs (that weren't on the list) I got lower FLOPS our of Intel Burn test (removed the extra 4 and things went back to normal, those other four sticks also work fine in another system)

Anyone have any recommendations for certified RAM for this board that can bring me up to 64 GB?

Hi,
I have installed 2 x 8 1600Mhz ECC REG and everything is working fine. From what I've seen so far, memory compatibility depends specific from the CPU you're wearing. I have a XEON E5-2665 and registered memory works fine. I will also try 16GB and 32GB ram modules, just to see if the board will accept them. If it will accept it, then total goes up to 128GB or 256GB, but these are just assumptions based on the XEON platform. Don't know what's going on with the i7 CPU. But again, memory depends totaly on the memory controller each CPU is carrying. The sure thing is that the X79 platform is a flexible platform and a sure investment for the future.
Cheers.

You only need one molex plug for 2+ cards. Not necessary to use both. It doesn't provide any extra power.

For 2 sticks of ram slots A1 and B1 should be used for dual channel.

EK makes one, you may be able to find a MIP's and Natemandoo (user here) makes a custom block.

For 3 GPU's at least one molex should be connected. The proper way to install the ram sticks is A1 then B1 (then C1 and D1) - make sure nonthing obstructs the ram pins on the other side of the board (rubber grommits ?)

That's incorect. EK unforunately does not make a waterblock for this board. Your two options are MIPS or a cutom block made by nateman_doo.

Take a look at this thread for the block made by nateman_doo. You'll have to contact him about pricing. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1853148&high=nateman_doo

MIPS unforunately went out of business and are no longer making new waterblocks, but you can look around too see if anyone has any stock.
