Okay, I tried doing both - the front panel HD Audio cables are not even plugged into the motherboard - I even removed one of the Titans to make sure and the HD Audio pins are not connected.

I reinstalled the drivers twice to no avail.

The pink port still shows up as being connected when nothing is plugged in! mad.gif

What else can I do to fix this?

This may be a super long shot, but try resetting your cmos and as the last resort flash bios. Short of that, it leads me to believe that the board may be faulty.

If you don't want to rma your board, you may try something like a usb sound card as a last resort.

Also, may just get a normal sound card and gain the advantage of higher audio fidelity. smile.gif

Time for a fresh Windows install. Installing a 3rd party sound card will most likely work, but the Extreme 11 has a good quality sound chip (after tweaking) and I would RMA the board if the clean OS doesn't work. If not to get the board working properly, at least for the resale value. And before the warranty expires.

If I remember correctly, disabling the HD Audio option in BIOS will disable the SB chip, so HD Audio has to be enabled in BIOS for the SB chip to work in Windows.

If you don't want to reinstall the OS, you can install windows on an external drive to test things out by booting from the external drive with a fresh install of windows. Won't take too long to do so but will save you a lot of time by at least ruling out the issue is with the OS itself.... Good luck!!

That is a great idea! I have one of those external HDD bays that you can just plug the HDD in and it connects via e-SATA I think.

As a matter of fact, I can kill two birds with one stone doing this; I need to update the firmware on my Corsair ForceGT SSDs. Since they have the OS installed on them and they are in a RAID array, it was not possible (according to Corsair as you need the SSD in AHCI mode to update the firmware using the Corsair Toolbox program). With Windows on another drive, I can update the firmware on the ForceGTs (would this remove all the data from the SSDs though?) and test the mic as well!

Will report back soon!

I will also try a BIOS flash and CMOS reset.

Btw, did you guys update to the new 3.0 BIOS? When I spoke to the ASRock rep, he said *NOT* to update the firmware for those of us running SB-E. That new firmware is only for people running the new IB-E CPUs. Is this confirmed?

Negative. Holding out until i get my 4930k to update to that one.

Hope you get it fixed Baasha. After that you need to get on some Arma 3! Its awesome and a mic is a must. It made me put away BF3 for now. But man it has a steep learning curve.

Updating firmware should not wipe the data on the SSD, but I would suggest you creating a system image before doing so, just in case. smile.gif

I upgraded my BIOS to 3.0 and had the same problem like you, so I decided to flash the new beta L3.01 available at ASRock site:
http://asrock.com/mb/Intel/X79%20Extreme11/index.us.asp?cat=Beta

Now the turbo feature is working again, so ASRock is working to fix the mess they introduced in v3.0

ASRock does not do cross-shipping. They want to see your board before they send you a new one. I am quite sure that if you've been overclocking and that is the cause of the failure they won't replace it. Took me 2 months to get my board replaced. Was stuck in customs for over 2 weeks alone. They must have made some paperwork error when they shipped it or customs would not have stopped it. It sailed through customs np when I shipped it to them.
