ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 69

Well, I have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that I was able to install Win 7 on another drive (HDD) and update the firmware on the ForceGTs to the latest version without issue. thumb.gif

The bad news is in two parts.

1.) When I was "prepping" the HDD for the OS install, I created a partition just for the OS (to test) and when using DISKPART, I selected the partition and then typed the 'Clean' command. Bad idea! It deleted all the partitions and I lost about 150GB worth of data - recent BF3 movies that I made with some goofy commentary, several Skyrim mods, and whole bunch of wallpapers etc. that I had collected over some time (but forgot to back up).

Safe to say that I am really pissed off right now! mad.gif

2.) The other bad news is that right after a fresh OS install, I installed the Creative SoundBlaster drivers and opened the Control Panel. To my dismay, the worthless pink mic port still showed up as "plugged-in" or connected when nothing was plugged-in! sniper.gif

So, it definitely looks like the mic jack on the back of the mobo is kaput. I did, however, get a cheap USB dac to use the mic and it works wonderfully well - hence my barrage of BF3 videos w/ commentary - that I just lost today! frown.gif

Over the past couple of days, I have been looking to see if anyone has had experience with RMA'ing the Extreme11 mobo.

It looks like ASRock's RMA experience is absolutely horrid from what I gather. There are MANY people who say they shipped ASRock a great board only to get it returned with bent pins and rejection of the RMA! This scares the crap out of me - I take extremely good care of my stuff and there is NO WAY IN HELL will I accept a board that is damaged by them or in transit that they may try to blame me for.

Has anyone done an RMA with this board? I see the poster above says he too had issues and it took over 2 months to get the board back which is ridiculous IMO. No issues regarding the board itself though?

There are "reviews" out there that are full of complaints of ASRock's RMA experiences gone bad - mostly bent CPU pins which is just crazy since at that point, the board is a gonner.

I neither need nor want a $600 paperweight. I'm fine with using the USB dac for now since the functionality is there.

Can anyone chime in on this - is ASRock's RMA really that bad? What do you guys suggest I do?

Thanks in advance.

I RMA'd an Extreme11 board last year. The process was quick and painless, and successful. Asrocks's process was not near as automated as Corsair's, but they were fair and my board was replaced in a timely manner with a brand new one.

So if anyone wants to help me out, I would more than appreciate it. Using a 3930k. Plugged everything in and it seems to be working fine. When I turn the computer on all the fans run and all the leds light up. Only thing that doesn't light up is the Dr. Debug, or the red LED numbers. This worries me. I'm not sure if the MOBO or CPU is damaged. Reseted the CMOS (as well as took the battery out). Invited a guy with tons of experience to take a look at it for me. I guess I can RMA that and my CPU to be safe, but I'm honestly just want my board to work. With my current situtation does anyone have any ideas?

Well i have some bad news for you - I'm almost 100% sure your board is the one to blame - I had the EXACT same symptoms and behaviour (powered on, no dr debug) on Extreme9 and even replacing the bios chip didn't solve the situation. Had to RMA the board.

Oh and when you receive your extreme11 ALWAYS remember - updating bios sets the chipset fan to "Manual" which is not nearly enough to cool it down so you could end up with coocking your LSI controler like I did - so always remember to set it to "FULL" option.

Alrite, RMAed the board and CPU just to be safe. Thanks for the insight man, really appreciate it. I think as good as Asrock products are there RMA values are too high to be safe. The process was nice and speedy.

I installed my newly arrived 32gb of corsair dominator platinum 1866mhz ram. I also got the light kits for them. No issues with them so far.smile.gif

I see. Okay, I guess I too will RMA the board.

The only question is, since ASRock doesn't send you a box to send the mobo to be RMA'd, how did you package the mobo to ensure it is not damaged en route? I have the CPU cap that I will put to protect the pins but what about the whole board? Is there some sort of padded box you can get to package the mobo?

Shindo you suppose to enable Dr. Debug in UEFI. Set it as enable (not auto). Its under South Bridge Configuration. Good luck

Wait - so the system boots on normally and OS is loading but there's only the issue with no loghts on dr. debug ? Then I would go as Snatch advised - check the UEFI first for the on/off option for dr. debug before RMA'ing the board !

I misunderstood you and thought you ONLY get the board powered and that's it, no POST, no OS ! That's why I advised to RMA the board !

I RMAed it, no worries. I'm starting to think maybe I was a little too hasty shipping it back. I'm just hoping Newegg handles it with care and doesn't cause any problems if the same thing is shipped back. But for another user Dr. Debug starts with the board. No POST, couldn't install the OS, and I'm not sure if this is a problem but my Keyboard didn't light up (maybe Razer Synpase had to be installed?) so it probably was a defected board after all. My RAM (dominator Platinum) lit up, and the GPU wheels spun too, and so did the fans; but nothing was being displayed. Maybe I didn't put the GPU in the right PCI-e port, but I don't think that would make a difference. My CPU wasn't getting hot at all (probably cause it didn't even start) so That wasn't running. Hopefully I get a good replacement for my MOBO and CPU (RMAed that too) and then give my honest opinion about the board.

My rudimentary advice for anyone making their first time build like me: This board is packed to the rim with hardware on the PCB, make sure to properly ground yourself before touching it. Go as barebones as you can for the initial start up (aka: don't be an idiot like me and put two graphic cards and a sound card). Lastly before panicking (like me), make sure ALL the power plugs are connected.

The board seems to have a high amount of out-of-the box failure, but when it works it rocks (or should I say "asrocks") the competition. thumb.gif
