ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 80

The operating system doesnt have anything to do with the motherboard... There's no reason you would have to buy a new OS if you have to replace the motherboard.

Your OS is stored on your hard drive, you should be able to just plug everything into the new motherboard and it will work without reinstalling.

Right, final point from me, do you guys use a separate OS drive on this or just install your OS on the mega raid? Any idea which would have a faster boot? Being as I haven't actually bought the board yet, I'm going to be either installing on the mega raid or on a raid 0 couple of 840 pro 128gb.

That is a problem. And actually would be a problem with every X79 board i have used. The lower input connectors always sit right next to the 4th GPU PCB.

It happens the same here in the US with this board. They will run out of stock, disappear, and then return when back in stock.

The built in LSI controller takes about 20 seconds to start up, so it will add to your boot time. So if you only have 2 SSD in raid i would put it on the Intel Sata ports. More than 2 in raid i would use the LSI controller.

You misunderstand. I have 8 1tb 840 Evo's for the LSI raid, but as you say it takes a bit to kick in, would the standard raid of 2x 840 pros be a faster boot/shutdown, than having it on the LSI?
Yeah, the built in intel raid is much faster at booting up than LSI.

Cheers, much appreciated. Choice vindicated. Stick my optical drive in a SATA II slot, but not bothered by that.

.

That sucks to hear. frown.gif

I guess I'll stay away from quad set ups in the future.

Guys,

So what is the latest BIOS everyone is on? I'm still on 2.80 since there were a few issues with 3.0 when it first came out. Should I upgrade to the latest BIOS despite having SB-E?

Also, I'm going to be installing Win 8.1 when it comes out this month in time for BF4 so are there any other updates etc. I should install on the mobo?

When I still had a 3960X I used 3.01. It fixes the performance problems SB-E had with 3.0.
